Abstract

The gap sealing device is primarily for blocking gaps between units, appliances and walls, mainly for reasons of hygiene. It comprises two flexible strips (1) with channels (2) which are attached to kitchen units or walls and a flexible strip (4) with raised edges or lobes which engage with the channels (2). The flexible centre section can be cleaned or replaced. <IMAGE>

Description

rAP SEALING DEVICE This invention is a device to seal gaps.
This gap sealing device is used where there are voids between units, appliances and walls and is especially beneficial where units have to be removed for purposes of hygene in commercial and domestic kitchens. It can also be used for sealing or bridging variable gaps in many varying applications including creation of water gulleys. The centre part of the device is removable for cleaning, or replacement, as required and is supplied on a roll that can be cut to required lengths.
The invention has two fixing strips - one fitted to each extremity of the gap. The centre section of the device is made of a flexible material and has lobes which will run, or can be attached to, the left and righthand side fixing strips - thus bridging the gap. This flexible centre section can be removed and cleaned, or replaced, as necessary.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows in perspective the two side fixing strips separated by a gap, assuming that they are fixed to items on the extremities of the gap; also showing the flexible centre section poised ready for insertion into the two side fixing strips.
Fixing strips 1 are first trimmed to length and then fixed via back 3 to their respective unit, appliance or wall (shown in Figure 1 fixed to a unit and appliance in the direction of arrow 7 and arrow 8 respectively.) The flexible centre section 4 with lobes 5 are slid along gaps 2 inside runners of fixing strips 1 in the direction of the arrow 6 from front to back by griping the flexible centre section 4 forward. The flexible centre section 4 once in position is trimmed across with a sharp knife cutting through lobes 5 and the middle of the flexible centre section 4, which will separate it from a roll. To remove the flexible centre section 4 slide out in the reverse direction of the arrow 6. This flexible centre section 4 can either be taken out for cleaning, or replacement, as is necessary. The gap sealing ability between lobes 5 are available in three sizes: A. 20mm to 100 mm B. 20mm to 300mm C. 20 mm to 600 mm

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS 1. The gap seal device is made up of fixing strips which also act as runners, one fitted to either side of the gap. The third compon ent part is the flexible centre section that is fixed to either of the fixing strips by means of a raised area or lobes at its extremities. The flexible centre section can be either removed, cleaned and replaced or, alternatively, renewed.
  2. 2. As in Claim 1 the gap seal device has no restriction on length.
  3. 3. As in Claim 1 the fixing strips referred to can be of a different construction to the one described, but carrying out the same purpose.
  4. 4. As in Claim 1 and Claim 2 the material of the flexible centre section need not necessarily be of a plain nature and can also be of a material that concertinas or stretches.
  5. 5. As in Claim 1, Claim 2 and Claim 4 the flexible centre section does not have to be made up in one piece of material.
  6. 6. As in Claim 1, Claim 2, Claim 4 and Claim 5 the flexible centre section can be supplied in cut lengths or on a roll of material.

  7. 7. As in Claims 1 to 6 the purpose of the invention is to block gaps between kitchen units, appliances and walls.
    Flexihility and withdrawal of the device for cleaning is its main feature.
  8. 8. As in Claims 1 to 7 this device can be in the form of a single strip with flexibility to clip in or slide out of a given gap and to be able to be replaced.
