Abstract
A letter clip or a binder clip or any suitable clip has an absorbent material such as foam or sponge in its internal cavity which can be used to repeatably wipe the dipstick of an engine. The clip can be used to guide the dipstick easily back into its retaining tube while avoiding getting oil on the hands. The clip can be placed on the end of the dipstick tube or in some other convenient location ready for use.
Description
DIPSTICK WIPER & GUIDE
This invention relates to a clip for wiping the dipstick of an ene--ne which may also be used to guide it back into its retaining tube.
Letter clips are well known items consisting of a bent piece of spring steel with two levers inserted in it so that when the levers are pressed together jaws on the other ends of the levers open. They are particularly associated with use for holding sheets of paper on clipboards and for molding sheets of paper or letters together. In their commonly encountered configuration there is a space within the piece of spring steel in which the item or items to be held are placed.
3inder clips are similar to lette clips differing from them in tha the jaws are an integral part of te spring and te levers are cf bent wire and are outside the spring and are capable of being folded dorn onto what is held by it..
According to the present invention there is provided a letter cli or a binder clip or any suitable clip with a sufficiently absorbent substance inserted in its internal space so as to be suitable for repeatable wiping the dipstick of an engine.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described,
The absorbent material may be some kind of foam or spore or sone other suitably absorbent substance which would ideally be resistant to engine oil.
en a slit is present in the substance used as fillip e end of the dipstick can be slid into it to wipe both sides at once. With no slit present one side can be wiped at a time The slit can be made by folding a sheet of the absorbent substance in two or by cutting into it.
Most vehicles have a dipstick with a retaining tube. The clip can be used to help replace the dipstick in its ret- > ininr tube by holding it steady since dipsticks are usually springy and difficult to replace without getting oil on the hands. The clip can be placed securely on the end of the dipstick tube or in some other convenient end secure location on or near the engine ready for use.
It may be advantageous to tise clips coated with nickel or some other corrosion resistant layer owing to the corrosive spray with which they may come into contact in cold winters when used on the engine of a vehicle.
Claims (2)
- B A letter clip or a binder clip or any suitable clip with asufficiently absorbent substance inserted in its internal space so as to be suitable for repeatably wiping the dipstick of an engine.
- 2 A clip with an absorbent substance in it as claimed in Clain 1 wherein the absorbent material has a fold or a slit to allow the insertIon of a dipstick to wipe both sides at once.
