-1DESCRIPTION SUPPORT STRUCTURE OF ROOF OF CAR PROVIDED WITH REMOVABLE TYPE ROOF
The present invention relates to a support structure of a removable type car roof.
Fig.5 shows conceptually a targa roof type car to illustrate the type of car roof in question. Such a carpay have a configuration in which an upper part of the car body is opened leaving a front glass frame b, including a front window a. and a roll bar d including a rear window a as shown in Fig.5(a), or a configuration in which a hard roof e is installed, being placed over and between an upper end portion of the front glass frame b and an upper edge portion of the roll bar d as shown in Fig.5(b).
In order to have the hard roof e supported by the front glass frame b and the roll bar d in such a car, a support means has to be installed between these parts and the hard roof e.
It is required for such a support means to enable the hard roof to be installed and removed easily and for it to securely support the hard roof e.
Thus, it is an object of the present invention to provide a support structure for a removable type car roof in which installation and removal of the roof is easy and the roof can be supported with certainty.
l 11 1 According to the present invention, there is provided a roof support structure for a removable type car roof having an engaging means for supporting the front end of the roof on a front glass frame, the engaging means comprising a hook located at the front end of the roof and a base installed on the front glass frame and having an engaging tongue portion and an engaging pin, the support structure further including a locking means for supporting the rear end of the roof on a roll bar and which regulates upward movement of the rear end of the roof when the roof is in its mounted state.
Thus, by virtue of the support structure of the present invention, when the roof is installed, the installation work is completed by moving the roof downward and locking the rear end of the roof, and the roof can be removed by releasing the lock at the rear end of the roof, pushing the rear end of the roof upward, and then pushing the whole roof upward.
Thus, by virtue of the support structure of the present invention, it becomes very easy to remove and install the roof.
The invention is described further hereinafter, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figs. 1 to 4 show a support structure for a - 3removable type roof according to the present invention, and wherein:
Fig.1 is a longitudinal sectional view of a front portion of a car body provided with an engagement means thereof; Fig.2 is a perspective view showing the principal components of the engagement means; Figs. 3(a), (b) and (c) are sectional views showing engagement release operation of the engagement means in regular order; and Fig.4 is a longitudinal sectional view of a rear part of a car body provided with a locking means.
Further, Figs. 5(a) and (b) are perspective views showing respective configurations of a car in which a removable type roof is adopted.
In the present support structure, an engaging means 10 is disposed between a front glass frame A and a front end of a roof B as shown in Fig. 1, and a locking means 20 disposed between a rear end of the roof B and a roll bar C as shown in Fig.4.
As shown in Fig.2, the engaging means 10 comprises a base 11 installed on the front glass frame A and a hook 12 installed at the front end of the roof B. Further, the base 11 has an engaging tongue portion lla and an engaging pin llb. In the state that the base 11 is fixed to the front glass frame A, i -4the engaging tongue portion lla is-positioned at a lower part and the pin llb is positioned at an upper part with its longitudinal axis orientated in the car width direction as shown in Fig.l. Furthermore, the hook 12 has a pawl 12a at the point thereof. In the state that the hook is fixed at the front end of the roof B, the pawl 12a is positioned at a lower part as shown in Fig.l.
Furthermore, in an installed state of the roof B shown in Fig.1, the pin llb of the base 11 is received in a recessed portion 12b of the hook 12, and the pawl 12a of the hook 12 is engaged with the engaging tongue portion lla of the base 11 (see Fig.3 (a)).
In order to remove the roof B from this installed state (see Fig.3 (a)), the rear portion of the roof B is pushed upward first, the roof B is rotated with the pin llb as the centre as shown with an arrow mark in Fig. 1, the pawl 12a of the hook 12 is removed from the engaging tonge portion lla of the base 11 (see Fig.3 (b)), the roof B is then pushed obliquely upward (see Fig.3 (c)), and the recessed portion 12b of the hook 12 is released from the pin llb.
Referring further to Fig.1, the reference numeral 13 denotes front window glass, 14 denotes a window mole, 15 denotes a weather strip and 16 denotes a roof mole.
1 i i i Further, the principal part of the locking means 20 is disposed under the rear end portion of the roof B as shown in Fig.4. In this locking means 20. a base 21 is fixed to the roof B. One end of the base 21 holds a joint 23 through a pin 22, and the joint 23 holds a lever 25 through a pin 24. The lever 25 has a pawl 25a at one end thereof, and holds a lock button 26 at the central part thereof. The lock button 26 is supported rotatably on the lever 25 by means of a pin 27, and has a pawl 26a at the point thereof. Further, a spring 28 is provided between the lever 25 and the button 26, and the button 26 is urged clockwise in Fig.4 by means of the spring 28.
Within the locking means 20, the pawl 26a of the button 26 is fitted into a hole 21a of the base 21 and engaged with the periphery 21b of the hole 21a, thereby to lock the roof B to the roll bar C as shown in Fig.4. Thus, the lever 25 is positioned on the roof B by means of another end 25b thereof and the button 26 in the state shown in Fig.4. In this condition, the pawl 25a of the lever 25 engages with a hook 29 of the roll bar C forming a part of the locking means 20, and the roof B is thus locked to the roll bar C.
When the locking means 20 is released, it is only required to push in the back of the button 26, thereby -6to have the pawl 26a part from the periphery 21b of the hole 21a of the base 21. Then, the pawl 26a is released from the hole 21a of the base 21, the joint 23 rotates in a direction shown with an arrow mark in Fig.4 with the above, and the lever 25 parts from the roof B. As a result, the pawl 25a of the lever 25 separates from a hook 29 of the roll bar C. Thus, the rear end portion of the roof B is released from locking and becomes able to move upward.
With further reference to FigA, the reference numeral 30 indicates a roof mole.
