Abstract

A co-axial plug which can be pushed onto an unprepared end of a co-axial cable comprises a central hollow metal shaft (12) containing a stop (10) which can be pushed over the core conductor (18) of the cable (16) and a screw-threaded tapered back nut (14) which forces the sharp ends of metallic cable clamps (13) into engagement with the cable braid (17). <IMAGE>

Description

QUICK FIT CO-AXIAL PLUG This invention relates to a quick fit plug for co-axial cable.

Co-axial plugs are a well known type of plug used in many dwellings for the connection between the co-axial cable to the aerial outlet plate and the socket on the television, radio system or other appliances using aerial connections.

The existing co-axial plug is difficult to fit, having to use tools, pliers, knife, wire strippers, and the co-axial cable has to be stripped back and prepared correctly, the co-axial plug then disassembled for fitting to the cable. This function requiring a certain amount of expert knowledge.

According to the present invention there is provided a quick fit co-axial plug, a plastic insulator with a central hollow shaft protruding from the rear end of the plug with sharp edges, and a cable stop within the hollow shaft. The inner metal case incorporating sharp edge clamps at the rear end. The outer case incorporating a screw type threaded back nut at the rear end thereof when tightened bringing pressure on the inner metal case clamps.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now he described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows the hollow metal shaft with sharp rear end 12 passing through the middle of the plastic insulatorll and the position of co-axial centre core cable stop 10.

Figure 2 shows the inner metal case with sharp edged cable clamps at rear end 13 used for securing the co-axial cable braid.

Figure 3 shows the outer case with threaded screw up back nut 14 with slanted inside edges 15, used to bring pressure on the clamps figure 2 when tightened up.

Figure 4 shows sectional view of the quick fit co-axial plug with co-axial cable 16 pushed in. The centre core of the co-axial cable 18 is pushed into the co-axial plug's centre shaft 12 until it reaches the cable stop 10 making connection. The back nut 14 is then tightened bringing pressure on the clamps 13 and making connection on the co-axial cable braid 17.

Figure 5 shows a sketch of the rear end of the quick fit co-axial plug, with the co-axial cable in position ready to be pushed into the plug's hollow shaft 12. The back nut is then tightened to secure the plug.

Claims

1. A quick fit co-axial plug, a plastic insulator with a central hollow shaft made of metal protruding from the rear end of the plug with sharp edges, and a cable stop within the hollow shaft 2, A quick fit co-axial plug as claimed in 1, wherein the inner metal case incorporating sharp edge clamps at the rear end. The outer case incorporating a screw type threaded back nut at the rear end and thereof when tightened bringing pressure on the inner metal case clamps.
