Description

DESCRIPTION This invention relates to a reading frame Reading frames are known in various forms but none are easy to operate, indeed some impossible to operate by persons without full use of their hands or by someone with only one hand or arm and need a second person to assist.
According to the present invention, this is a box fixed to a tubular frame.
The box is made to pivot to different angles on a radius. The lid is transparent to enable reader to see through.
The invention will now be described with reference to drawing in which Fig. I shows reading frame with box lid open.
Referring to the drawing the reading frame (1) is on castors (2) and is kept from being inadvertently moved by wooden or rubber plugs on front legs (3). A metal box (4) is mounted on a pivot bar, which is supported at one end by an angle bracket and at the other end by a hand operated location and stop mechanism.
The box has a clear plastic lid (5) which is pivoted at its top outer corners. The lid has two metal plates (6) which when the lid is closed, contact two magnets (7), these hold the lid closed. The hand operated location and stop mechanism is made up of a handle (9) which is held in place and pivots round a bolt (13).
The handle is supported inside a channel (1) which also houses a compression spring which acts against the bottom of the handle pushing the handle into location, in the halt position locator (12). The box is fixed to the support bar and thus the end supports by brackets (11) which are welded to the support rod and then bolted to the box.
The box support rod is fixed to the location and stop mechanism by bolt (14) which fastens through bottom of channel support (10).
The reading frame is ideal to allow the reading of a book by a person in bed and is operable by one hand. The mechanism can be located on the other side for a left handed person and legs adjusted to different heights.

Claims (6)

1. A reading frame comprising a wheeled tubular frame with a box fixed on top to hold a book.
2. A reading frame the box of which can be aligned to suitable angle for reading position and locked.
3. A reading frame operated by one hand only by a sprung lever as Claim 2.
4. A reading frame with lockable positions on notched radius as in Claim 2.
5. A reading frame with hinged transparent lid held closed by magnets.
6. A reading frame in which pages can be turned and then box re-aligned with one hand.
