Abstract

Means for catching a fish comprises a needle painted at each end and having a barb adjacent each point and a central hole for attachment of a line. In use the needle is threaded into, and covered by, bait e.g. a worm, the barbs holding the bait during casting. When the fisherman strikes the needle turns so that the points and barbs penetrate the jaws of the fish. <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE; Fishing Snaggle FIELD: This invention relates to a snagging device that catches fish.
BACKGROUND: The instrument is tied to the end of a fishing line, replacing the hook.
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS: The article comprises of a steel needle with sharp points at each end, varying in length and thickness. Upwards of 0.20 mm in thickness. Upwards of 10 mm in length (according to the requirements of the fishermen). The article can be of various sizes.
A small eye is positioned precisely in the centre of the instrument - see figure 1.
There are two small barbs at each end of the instrument, pointing in the same direction on the shaft - see figure 1.

Claims (5)

CLAIMS Fishing Snaggle 1 A fishing instrument comprising of a steel needle that is tapered to a point from the centre outwards to both ends with two parallel barbs that are mounted on the shanks, near to the points. A small hole is situated in the centre of the instrument for attachment of a fishing line. 2 A fishing instrument is claimed in which the two parallel barbs are a means of retaining the bait during the casting out of the line. 3 A fishing innovation is claimed in which afish is caughthaving taken the bait by pressure exserted on the snaggle on the line from the fishermans strike. Thus the subsequent movement will pivot the snaggle which will snag the upper and lower jaws or throat of a fish. By holding fast on a tight line thus a fish is landed. 4 Removal of the snaggle is claimed by slacking of the line and pulling the upper barbed point out 5 A fishing catching device as hereinbefore decribed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings. AMENDMENTS TO THE CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED AS FOLLOWS THE MANUMISSIONS OF THE DEVICE IS CLAIMED IN THE PROCEEDING STATEMENTS.
1. A fishing device is claimed comprising of a one piece steel shank that is equally tapered to a point from the centre outwards. Two parallel barbs are formed on the shank. A small hole is situated in the centre of the device for the attachment of the fishing line.
2. A fishing innovation is claimed in which a fish is held on a tight line with limited penetration to the upper jaw and lower jaw, without the penetration of a complete point and barb.
3. A fishing device is claimed in which two barbs are a means of retaining the deadbait on a steel shank during the casting. The device is almost completely sealed within the deadbait.
4. Extraction of the device is claimed by the slackening of the line, and the shaking of the device free from the mouth of the fish.
5. A fishing device is claimed to be self releasing from weed or underwater obstacles by means of turning over on itself from the centre when pulled into or across an underwater obstruction.
