Abstract
A golf glove comprising rear and palm portions secured together to permit the insertion of a golfer's hand therein. The rear and palm portions define a thumb opening to which is sewn a thumb cover panel 6 which is folded upon itself and sewn to permit the golfer's thumb to be inserted therein. One side edge of the thumb cover panel has an arcuate cut-out portion formed therein while the other side edge of the panel has a flap portion 32 extending therefrom which is secured to the cut-out portion, thereby repositioning the seam line of the thumb cover so that the seam line will not be positioned between the golfer's thumb and the golf club 38 gripped by the golfer. <IMAGE>
Description
Gol Glove
This invention relates to a golf glove, and more particularly to a golf glove having a thumb cover construction which provides increased "feel" between the golfer's thumb and golf club.
Conventional golf gloves generally comprise a palm portion, rear portion, thumb cover portion and finger inserts. The thumb cover generally is comprised of a single panel which is folded upon itself and sewn to create a thumb receiving portion. The thumb cover is sewn to the palm and rear portions. When sewn to the palm and rear portions, the seam line for the thumb is positioned at the inner side thereof and will be positioned between the golfer's thumb and the golf club when the golfer grips the club. The presence of the seam line between the golfer's thumb and the golf club results in reduced "feel" and is especially objectionable during putting. Further, the seam line can irritate the wearer's thumb and can result in a wear blister being formed on the golfer's thumb.Other golf gloves form the rear and palm portions from a single panel but the thumb cover still has the objectionable seam line present at the inner portion thereof.
It is therefore a principal object of the invention to provide an improved golf glove.
A further object of the invention is to provide a golf glove which is of such a construction that the thumb cover panel seam line is not positioned between the golfer's thumb and the golf club, thereby resulting in increased "feel.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a thumb cover panel for a golf glove which includes opposite side edges, with one of the side edges having an arcuate cut-out portion formed therein with the other edge having an arcuate flap extending therefrom which is secured to the arcuate cut-out portion.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a golf glove which is durable in use, refined in appearance and economical of manufacture.
These and other objects of the present invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art.
An improved golf glove is described which is compr-ised of a rear portion and a palm portion which are secured together so as to be able to be positioned on the golfer's hand. The palm and rear portions define a thumb opening to which is sewn a thumb cover panel. The thumb cover panel is seamed together in such a fashion that the seam line thereof will not be positioned between the golfer's thumb and the golf club, thereby resulting in increased "feel." The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which::- Figure 1 is a view of the golf glove as viewed from the rear or top portion thereof;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the golf glove of this invention;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the golf glove of this invention gripping a golf club;
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the thumb panel prior to the seam line being completed for purposes of illustration; and
Figure 5 is a elevational view seen from the palm side of the glove.
The golf glove of this invention is referred to generally by the reference numeral 10 and is formed from panel portions generally described as a palm portion 12, rear portion 14, thumb cover panel 16 and inserts 20 which are positioned between the finger portions of the palm and rear portions 12 and 14. In some gloves, the palm and rear portions 12 and 14 are constructed of a single panel folded upon itself and sewn together. Further, in some golf gloves, the inserts 20 are omitted.
Regardless of the construction of the palm and rear portions and regardless of whether finger inserts are utilized, it is the construction of the thumb cover panel 16 which is the heart of this invention, as will be described hereinafter.
Glove 10 includes a conventional wrist strap 22 and elastic members 24 designed to draw the glove tightly around the golfer's wrist as seen in Figure 3.
Palm portion 12 defines a thumb opening 26 at one side thereof while rear portion 14 defines a thumb opening 28 at one side thereof. Thumb cover 16 is comprised of a single panel 30 which is folded upon itself as illustrated in
Figures 4 and 5 and sewn together to create a longitudinally extending seam line 32. It is extremely important to note that one edge of panel 30 has an arcuate cut-off portion 34 formed therein, while the other edge of panel 30 has an arcuate flap portion 36 extending therefrom, which is adapted to be sewn to cut-off portion 34 so that the seam line therebetween will not be positioned between the golfer's thumb and the grip 38 of a golf club. This construction ensures that the golfer will not have any "ridge" between his/her thumb and the golf club, thereby providing the golfer with increased and maximum feel. Not only is increased feel achieved through the elimination of a seam line between the golfer's thumb and golf club, but the elimination of the seam line also prevents the formation of a wear blister on the golfer's thumb which can be caused by the ridge on the thumb cover panels of conventional golf gloves.
Thus it can be seen that a novel golf glove has been provided which has a unique construction which positions the seam line of the thumb cover panel so that the seam line will not be positioned between the golfer's thumb and the golf club gripped by the golfer. Thus it can be seen that the invention accomplishes at least all of its stated objectives.
Claims (4)
