Description

PARTITIONING SYSTEM.
The present invention relates to partitioning systems, and in particular, to a partitioning system which is simple to install.
The object of the present invention is to provide a partitioning system which clips into position using a plurality of connection members.
In the remainder of this specification, terms such as, for example, "vertical" are to be construed in accordance with fig. 1.
According to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a partitioning system comprising a plurality of partition members having connection members on vertical edges thereof, each connection member including clip means, wherein the clip means of a connection member on any partition member is adapted to cooperate with and engage the clip means of a connection member on any other partition member.
Preferably, the connection members consist of connecting strips attached to the partition members. Preferably, each clip means comprises a first projection having a rib thereon and a second projection having a recess therein, wherein engagement between clip means is effected by location of the rib on the first projection of a first clip means in the recess in the second projection of a second clip means.
Preferably, the system includes one or more cover strips for attachment to the top of the partition members, and/or one or more top caps for fitting to the top of a join between adjacent partition members.
The system may also comprise one or more auxiliary members for attachment at an angle, e.g. about 900, to a join between adjacent partition members.
The system may also comprise one or more feet, one or more facing strips for attachment to the base of the partition members and/or one or more facing caps for fitting to the bottom of a join between adjacent partition members.
One embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the drawings in which: Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a partitioning system of the preferred embodiment; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the detail of the partitioning system of fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a connection member as shown in fig. 2; and Fig 4 is a schematic plan view of connections of the partitioning system of fig 1.
The partitioning system 1 of the preferred embodiment is illustrated in the drawings. The system 1 comprises partitions 2 which are connected together. The partitions 2 have a connector strip 3 extending along their vertical edges. The connector strips 3 have a pair of projections 5 and 6 wherein a long projection 5 has a rib 7 which mates with a recess 8 in a short projection 6. The projections 5 and 6 are able to be clipped together in a simple manner.
A lip 4 is located at the ends of the connector strips, whereby the lips 4 are in a spaced arrangement from the adjacent lip on the connecting connector strip 3.
As seen in fig. 1, the partitions 2 have a top channel 9 extending along its top edge. A cover strip 10 encloses the channel 9 to form a neat cover arrangement. A top cap 11 fits into the space between the two connector strips 3 in such a fashion that four lugs 12 fit within the recess 15 while a pair of flanges fit under the strip 10. The strips 10 and caps 11 provide a continuous and neat cover for the top edge of the partition 2.
Also, in fig. 1, is illustrated the manner in which an auxiliary member 16 can be connected to the partitioning system 1. The auxiliary member 16 has a pair of lugs 17 located on an edging strip 18. The lugs 17 are able to be fitted to and thus supported by a pair of support plates 19 which are secured in place between the lips 4 of the adjacent strips 3. In such a manner, an auxiliary member 16 can be supported at an angle perpendicular to the plane of the partitioning system 1.
Also illustrated in fig. 1, are variable height legs 21 each having a foot 22. The legs 21 are connected to the bottom edge of the partition 2 and have a threaded bolt 23 which is able to be turned to obtain the correct height and alignment. The bolt 23 interacts with apertures 28 in ledges 24 attached to the legs 21. the legs 21 have a channel 25 adjacent the feet 22 whereby a facing strip 26 is 1 able to be inserted to provide a neat cover. A further facing cap 27 is able to be inserted onto a support plate 19 which is wedged into place between the clips 4. The facing strips 26 and facing cap 27 provide a continuous facing arrangement.
Illustrated in fig. 3, the partitioning system is seen to include a corner connector member 31 which consists of two connector strips 3, located perpendicular to each other.
The connector member 31 has a rounded surface 33 which provides a corner of the system 1. Also seen is a rectangular member 32 which has three connector strips 3 and a flat surface 34. The connector member 32 is used to provide an arrangement whereby another partition is able to be connected into the system in a perpendicular arrangement.
The foregoing describes only one embodiment of the present invention, and modifications obvious to those skilled in the art can be made thereto without departing from the scope of the present invention.
For example, the auxiliary member 16 can take a number of shapes and/or arrangements.
