Abstract

A golf ball receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector has located within the outer surlyn casing, a spherical shaped metal component, that is receptive to simple hand held metal detectors. <IMAGE>

Description

A GOLF BALL RECEPTIVE TO A SIMPLE HAND-HELD METAL DETECTOR.
This invention relates to a golf ball receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector.
A conventional golf ball is a well known sporting accessory used in the game of golf. Its size is not less than 41.15mm and its weight not more than 45.9 grams. Its diametre is at least 4.27cm. There are two types of golf ball currently being manufactured -: i. a 2 piece; which consists of a solid rubber core surrounded by a outer casing of dimpled surlyn.
ii. a 3 piece; which consists of a continuous thin rubber thread wound tightly round a core - which is either solid rubber or sac filled with water or another liquid. Dimpled surlyn again provides the outer casing.
Conventional golf balls are, however, constantly being lost in the rough ground of the golf course - with no technical means of locating the lost ball.
By introducing a suitable metal component to the structure of the conventional golf ball, the golf ball would be receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector. The metal component would be introduced in such a way, that it would not contravine the laws for the weight and size of a golf ball, and would give a similar playing performance to those golf balls currently being manufactured.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by the way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which -: Figure 1. Illustrates the outside perspective of the golf ball receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector.
Figure 2. Ilustrates the interior cross section of the golf ball receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector.
Referring to the drawing, the golf ball comprises of a dimpled surlyn outer covering (Fig 1), with the weight, size and performance characteristics of golf balls currently being manufactured.
In order to locate the golf ball by means of a simple handheld metal detector, a small spherical shaped metal component is placed in the centre of the inside of the golf ball (Fig 2). The metal component would be of such weight and size so as not to contravine golfing rules, or to make for inferior performance. The metal used would also be receptive so as to be detectable by a simple hand-held metal detector. (Fig 3).

Claims (1)

1. By introducing a receptive metal component to the structure of the golf ball, the golf ball would be receptive to a simple hand-held metal detector, used by a player or caddy. The metal component would be introduced in such a way that it would not contravine golfing rules in terms of size and weight of the ball, and would give a similar performance to that of conventional golf balls.
