Abstract

A disc drive card is a device which can be inserted into a disc drive and locked into place within a disc drive, thereby preventing the insertion of another disc until such time as the disc drive guard is unlocked and removed from the disc drive. This has the effect of helping to prevent a computer "virus" from entering into a computer system via a disc drive.

Description

Disc Drive Cuard - Description.
The use of computers is now widespread. A key problem is the protection of computer systems and data from computer viruses, which can "infect" computer systems through using an "infected" disc in a disc drive.
The Disc Drive Guard by being locked into a disc drive through using the lock prevents the insertion of a disc which may or may not have a virus. When the disc drive is wanted the Disc Drive Guard can simply be unlocked and removed from the disc drive.
Therefore the casual use of a disc drive is avoided by say an unauthorised user and it therefore assists in the protection of a computer system and data from a virus.
Disc - a medium for storing and retrieving information from a computer.
Disc drive - a device for reading and storing information on a disc.
Computer virus - A programme which hides itself in a disc or within a programme and which copies itself onto other discs and programmes.They can change or alter stored information and programmes, and can also create havoc in other ways.

Claims (4)

1. A Disc Drive Guard comprising of caseing means, a lock means, and tabs.
2. A Disc Drive Guard as claimed in Claim 1 wherin the caseing means serve to secure the lock means in place and to guide the device into and from a disc drive.
3. A Disc Drive Guard as claimed in any preceeding claim, wherin the lock means enables the tabs to be moved allowing the Disc Drive Guard to be locked into a disc drive or to be inserted/removed from a disc drive.
4. A Disc Drive Guard substantially as described herin with reference to the accompanying drawings.
