Description
A MIRROR
The present invention relates to a mirror device and in particular to a mirror device provided with a handle, the position of which, relative the mirror, can be altered.
Hand-held mirrors are known and so are mirrors that are supported on a stand - the position of the mirror, relative the stand, being movable according to different needs. We have sought to provide a mirror that is provided with a handle, the position of which, relative the mirror, can be altered so as to act as a stand and permit the mirror to be placed on a surface and to remain at the desired angle or to be held in the hand.
Accordingly the present invention provides a mirror device comprising a mirror mounted in a frame which does not completely surround the mirror and a handle rotatably mounted on one end of the frame.
In one embodiment of the invention the mirror is rotatably mounted within the frame.
In a further embodiment the handle is weighted to give the mirror device stability when placed on a surface.
In yet a further embodiment the frame is provided with one or more projecting ribs which further add to the stability of the mirror device when placed on a surface.
Turning and locating means which permit the handle to be rotatably mounted on one end of the frame including means which permit the handle to be rotated to a desired position are known. A particularly suitable turning and locking means comprises a gear ring having teeth on its inner surface which engage the outer surface of a resilient tube which fits in the gear ring, whereby the gear ring (enclosed in a casing surrounds the point at which the handle is mounted on the frame) can be manually rotated around the resilient tube.
The present invention is further illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a mirror device in
accordance with the present invention,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the mirror
device of Figure 1 with the handle used
as a stand,
Figure 3 (a) shows a cross-section of a
turning and locking means for use in the
mirror device of the present invention
in a separated manner and
Figure 3 (b) shows the same turning and locking
means in the "in use" position.
A mirror device shown generally as 1 in Figures 1 and 2 comprises of mirror 2 rotatably mounted in a frame 3 at points 4. A handle 5 is rotatably mounted on frame 3 at 6. The frame 3 is provided with ribs 7 (only one shown) whereby the mirror device 1 can be balanced on a surface.
A turning and locking means 10 shown generally as 10 in Figures 3A and 3B comprises a gear ring 11 with its inner surface provided with teeth 12 and a resilient tube 13. The resilience of tube 13 is partly due to the material it is made from and partly due to a series of slits 14 which enable the tube 13 to be compressed to fit into gear ring 11. In use the tube 13 fits within gear ring 11 and is located between frame 3 and handle 5 at location 6.
Claims (6)

2. A mirror device according to Claim 1, wherein the mirror is rotatably mounted within the frame.
3. A mirror device according to Claim 1, wherein the handle is weighted.
4. A mirror device according to Claim 1, wherein the frame is provided with one or more projecting ribs.
5. A mirror device according to Claim 1, wherein the handle is rotatably mounted on one end of the frame by means of a turning and locking mechanism.
6. A mirror device according to Claim 5, wherein the turning and locking mechanism comprises a gear ring having teeth on its inner surface which engages the outer surface of a resilient tube which fits in the gear ring.
