Abstract
Board game apparatus comprises a board, players markers, random number generator, and score charts wherein the squares on the board are laid out directly with mathematical instructions. In the embodiment these are:- G = Gain, L = Lose, S = Score, N = Neutral, X = Multiply by, and DIVIDED = divide by (e.g. L 10 means lose of 10 points, which must be subtracted from your score chart). The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible whilst completing travel from square 1-56. The score chart helps each player to record scores as to gain and loses. <IMAGE>
Description
Title BOARD GAME
The present invention relates to a board game, and in particular to a board game called "Give and Take" which involves arithmetical skills and reasoning.
According to the present invention there is provided a board game comprising a board illustrated on its surface with a plurality a spaces such as squares, optionally numbered sequentially, a plurality of markers each of which is intended to mark the position of each player during the course of the game, a number generator such as a dice to move the markers to different spaces, each of said squares having thereon arithmetical instructions and a plurality of position charts to itemise and total the arithmetical instructions as each marker goes to each space. The spaces may be divided into two groups, one group in which it is indicated that the markers can move in one or more directions through the spaces and another group in which it is indicated that the markers can move only in one direction only through the spaces.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows the board and
Figure 2 the Position Charts.
Referring to Figure 1, there are 7 rows and 8 columns of spaces in the form of squares, sequentially numbered 1 to 56. Squares 1 to 32 are designated a Free Zone in which markers can move in either direction relative to the sequence of numbered squares, and Squares 33 to 56 a Restricted Zone in which markers can move only one direction towards square 56. Each square has a letter and number, the letters meaning the following:
G = Gain
L = Loss
S = Score
N = Neutral
S x ? = Score multiply by
S - ? = Score divided by
To interpret the squares by way of example, L 10 means lose 10 points, G 10 means gain 10 points, N 0 means no point gained or lost, S x 2 means your current score on the Position Chart (see below) is to be multiplied by 2, and S ' 2 means divide your current score on the position chart by 2.
Referring to Figure 2, there is shown one of a number of blank
Position charts. Each position chart enables a player to record 20 moves of G, L,:y; and ., and keep a running total in the S column. The Position Chart may be made of suitable material so that entry on it can be rubbed out so it can be used time and time again.
Each game would also include a number generator such as a dice.
Rules.
The aim of the game is to score as many points as possible whilst completing travel from square 1 to 56. Each player takes it in turn to throw a dice which determines which square he lands on. In the Free Zone a player can elect to move forward and backwards each turn, and in the Restricted Zone he can only move forward. It is possible to score so many points of gains and so many points of losses.
As each player travels through the squares, he keeps a total of the score on the Position Chart. If he lands on a "neutral" square, he does not record this on the position chart.
If a player makes more than 20 entries on the Position Chart without reaching square 56, he is eliminated. If however he reaches Square 56 without completing a major proportion of the 20 entries, he is likely to have a low score. The skill in the game is therefore to balance the completion or near completion of 20 entries (without exceeding 20 entries) with reaching the end of the board.
Further modifications to the invention will be aparent to those skilled in the art without departing from its scope. For example spaces other than squares could be used, a number generator other than dice, different types of arithmetical information on the spaces, or the game could be transferred onto computers.
