Abstract
A multi-purpose showjump has two main wings 1, two support wings 2, three octagonally shaped poles 3 - all in timber, six pole cups (drawing 10) and two adjustable clamp mechanisms 4 - all in metal. The jump can be used in various formats, the main three being vertical, horizontal or inverted into a gate, as shown in fig 5 by assembling the various parts in a different manner. The jump can be packed flat for easy storage and carriage. <IMAGE>
Description
A MULTI - PURPOSE SH0X7JUMP This invention relates to a multi-purpose wooden showjump, inclusive of two main wings with two support wings, three poles, six detachable pole cups and two adjustable clamps.
Showjumps are well known solid wooden structures, consisting of two wings, a number of poles and cups, and are used at horse shows or at private establishments for jumping horses over.
The standard showjump however, (eg: 2 wings, 3 poles & 6 cups), is very limited in use and can only be used in an upright fashion. If a jump with any width is required then further sets of showjumps have to be bought in, and to have a jump with more intricate detail -ie; a gate, then a separate item altogether has to be brought with special cups to support it. Also the standard showjump is very cumbersome to store or move around. It also becomes very expensive to build anything more than a straightforward upright as it requires more than one jump set.
In this invention the showjump can be used as an upright, a spread or a gate.
It has many variations making it very valuable for private use or in competitions as it eliminates the need to own large quantities of shswjumps. It has an adjustable clamp mechanism for easy assembly, it also dismantles with ease and packs flat for storage or carriage. It is easy to maintain and each piece can be either brought or replaced as an individual unit. The detachable pole cups can be used in an horizontal, vertical or angular position, making the change from one jump style to another quick and easy, as it only requires the removal and repositioning of the metal pins.
Specific drawings in perspective of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to these drawings.
Drawing 1/ Shows the showjump assembled in the vertical position with the poles in variable positions on the main wings.
Drawing 2/ Shows a main wing still in the vertical with the support wing in each of its positions.
Drawing 3/ Shows the jump assembled in the horizontal position with the poles in variable positions on the main wings - portraying a spread fence.
Drawing 4/ Shows the main wing in the horizontal with the support wing in each of its positions.
Drawing 5/ Shows the jump assembled in the gate position with an optional pole in place. Both main wings are horizontal, but one is inverted onto the other.
PAGE 2/ a multi-purpose showjump Drawing 6/ Shows the hole positions in relation to the faces of the wood throughout various sections of a main wing. The holes are at an equal pitch at right angles to the face of the vertical and horizontal members. However, the holes in the end members, which are inclined at 450, are angled at 45 in the wood.
Drawing 7/ Shows vertical and horizontal sections of the support wing showing equally pitched holes through gO0 to the face of the-wood.
Drawing 8/ Shows the adjustable clamp mechanism with which the main wing and the support wing are joined together.
Drawing 9/ Shows the adjustable clamp in position on the wings.
Drawing 10/Shows the pole cup assembled in position on an horizontal member.
Drawing 11/Shows the pole cup assembled in position on a vertical member.
Drawing 12/Shows the pole cup assembled in position on an angular member.
Drawing 13/Shows the method of assembly of the pole cup n the horizontal postion.
Drawing 14/Shows a part section of the pole cup in position, wth a pole located as when in use.
PAGE 3/ a multi-purpose showiump Referring to the drawings the showjump comprises of two main wings 1, two support wings 2, three octagonally cut poles 3, six pole cups (metal) drawing 10, and two adjustable clamp mechanisms (metal) drawing 8.
The two main wings 1, can be used in a vertical, horizontal or inverted position as in drawings 1, 3 a 5.
The two support wings can be used in a vertical or horizontal position as in drawings 1 & 3.
The three octagonally cut poles 3, can be used along each broad face of the main wings 1, and two of the broad faces of the support wing 2, as in drawings 1, 3 & 5.
the six pole cups 5 & 6, are attached to the wings as illustrated in drawings 10, 11 & 12, and are used to support the poles 3, in position between the two main wings 1, or the support wings 2. They comprise of a main metal support bracket 5, and a securing pin 6.
The two adjustable clamp mechanisms 4, drawing 2, are used to hold together the main wing 1, to the support wing 2, in various positions as Illustrated in drawings 8 & 9. It has a ball knob 7, which has a stud 8, projected from one side passing through one face of the wood protecting channel --, and Into a 'U' bracket 10, which is tapped to take the stud. Clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation of the ball knob results in the fastening and unfastening of the clamp.
There is a metal pin 11, at the open end of the 'U' bracket which fits through the holes in the bracket 12, onto either the main wing 1, or support wing 2, holding the two together.
The jump can be dismantled and packed flat for storage or carriage.
