Abstract
Lengths of different decorative paper are rolled together, preferably on a common core, in an axially overlapping manner so that part at least of each decorative side is visible. The lengths may be rolled simultaneously, to interleave, or sequentially, and they may be of uniform width or of different widths. <IMAGE>
Description
"Improvements relating to Gift Wrapping" This invention relates to gift wrapping and in particular to the way it is presented for purchase by the public.
There are two basic ways of presentation, one being where the paper is made into a roll, usually supported by a tubular cardboard core. This has the advantage that the paper can be provided in long lengths without any creases.
However, most people want a variety of paper, with different patterns or decorations, and the usual way of dealing with this has been just to provide more rolls, each with an individual paper. A number of such rolls are often put in a common transparent envelope, but this takes up a considerable amount of space, there being relatively little product for the size of the complete package.
The alternative to the roll is a flat pack, but to have paper of any reasonable size and yet convenient to retail, it must be folded. Such folds are almost impossible to iron out, and they can spoil the effect of the eventual wrapping.
For the past ten years or so, there has been available a flat pack in which several different papers have been presented in overlapping or shingled fashion so that the purchaser can see through the transparent envelope all the different patterns. It has proved quite successful, despite the disadvantages of folds.
According to the present invention there is provided a pack of gift wrapping paper wherein a plurality of lengths of such paper are rolled in an overlapping manner so that part, at least, of the decorative side of each length is visible.
Thus there is a compact display presentation for the purchaser of several lengths of differently patterned or coloured paper, all without creases.
Preferably, the lengths of paper will be wound on a common core. The lengths may be all of the same width, or of different widths. When they are the same width the core, if used, will of course be longer than that width by an amount that will allow a reasonable exposure of each decorative side.
Conveniently, the lengths will be interleaved by being rolled together simultaneously, which will reduce the steps at the overlaps. However, in an alternative arrangement, the lengths are rolled sequentially. When they are of different widths the widest is rolled first, followed by the next widest, and so on, thus leaving a portion of each length exposed.
Not all parcels are large, and often it is a convenience to have a roll of relatively narrow paper. This type of pack will fulfil that need.
Examples of packs according to the invention are diagrammatically shown in the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 illustrating four lengths rolled in interleaving fashion onto a common core and Figure 2 showing a wide length rolled onto a core followed by a narrow length. It will be understood that they will normally be encased in clear, thin film with labelling for retail.
