Abstract

Extrusion apparatus, particularly applicable to small to medium sized presses, employs indirect extrusion in which a die stem (102) slides through an extrusion chamber (104). The chamber (104) itself is slidably mounted on a guide system. Thrust from the headside chambers of two or more rams (110) is applied to the chamber (104). The action thrust from the cylinders (128) is contained within an external framework connecting the cylinders (128) with the die stem (102). The slidable extrusion chamber (104) is itself guided on the side rods (126) of the framework, which are merely in tension.
