Description

AN APPARATUS FOR MEASURING AND DISPLAYING TIMEVARYING MAGNETIC PHENOMENA THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO THE MEASUREMENT AND DISPLAYING OF TIME VARYING MAGNETIC PHENOMENA IN THE GENERAL EMBODIMENT OF A SINGLE APPARATUS.
Magnetic field strength, Magnetic Flux ano related magnetic phenomena, such as magnetic flux density, can be measured by a variety ot known apparatus.
By means of some output device, such as a an@@@ogue moving coi! meter or digital meter, a value of te p@@perty measured is indicated.
On previous embodiments of such instruments the output has been limited to indicating a single or 1 imteo number of measurements at a particular moment in time.
Concidering such instruments, in the case of what is frequent called a tc. measurement, aa- measurement of a statie, that is non changing, magnet measurement takes place.
The indication relates to the property being measured at that moment in time. allowing for delays witnir tne operation of the instrument.
In the case o what is frequently aesor ihes es an "AC" measurement, a measurement of a repeating oscillating magnetic property takes place. The indication relates to the measurement et that moment to the stat@@ equiva@ent of the alternating waveform averaged over a @@@ eveles. The measurement gives little indication of the shape of the alternating waveform.
In the case of what is frequently described as a Peak measurement the indication relates to the pignest, or lowest.
reading experienced by an instrument during a given period.
Measurement and displaying time varying magnetic phenomena is feasible by designing a system basec up In individual known apparatus.
The present invention relates t a general embociment of a single apparatus and a separate transducer, to measure and indicate time varying magnetic phenomena.
According to one embodiment of the present invert ion a Hal I effect device forms a transducer. This is connected to an instrument equipped with signal procession e ectronic cuitry compatible with the said transducer together with some form of graphical display such as s l liquio @ crystal graphics display, cathode ray tube or some suor item of prior art.
As the Hall effect device experiences time varying magnetic phenomena. the apparatus will be recorded end di slaved as a graph with a time dependent axis. The data can be recorded and displayed se a contunuity of date @@@@@ @@@ p@@urality of points.
n another embodiment a coil may for@@@ a @@@@@@er connected to a similar apparatus.
Figure 1 is a diagram illustrating one possible embodiment of the present invention.
A transducer is connected to signal processing electronic circuitry . This circuitry is designed to be compatible with the signals produced and required by the transducer and is not of a general form.
The output of the signal processing electrenic circuitry is supplied to an analogue to digital converter which digitises the signal for the microprocessor to process. This outputs the data to a graphic display iiquid crystal display.
The display shows a graph of magnetic lux density displayed against a time based axis. From this graph, ma magnetic flux density values or other data can be extracted by the operat;D
