Abstract

The device is usable for removing mud from around the studs of a golf-shoe and comprises a rigid or semi-rigid plate (11) having an edge face (12) provided with a plurality of recesses (30) spaced so as to define alternating edge portions (31) and recesses along the edge face. The dimension of each recess 30 along the edge face (12) is greater than the dimension of each edge portion (31) along the edge face (12) and each recess has opposite walls (32) extending from the edge face with a concave bridging wall (33) therebetween. The recess walls (32) are inclined to the edge face at an angle in the range 65 DEG to 90 DEG . <IMAGE>

Description

GOLF-SHOE CLEANING DEVICE This invention relates to a golf shoe cleaning device.
Golf-shoes are provided with metal studs comprising a plate portion, which seats on the sole of the shoe, and a projection, which is usually cylindrical. The term golf-shoe is used herein to mean this type of shoe, whether or not used for the purpose of playing golf.
Golf-shoes collect mud, in use, around the studs and such mud is difficult to remove. It is usual to use a knife-blade or other such tool for cleaning around the studs, but this is laborious.
The present invention provides a cleaning device, for removing mud from around the studs of a golf-shoe, which permits rapid cleaning and is easily carried, e.g. in a pocket of a garment.
The present invention provides a golf-shoe cleaning device, for removing mud from around the studs of a golf-shoe, the device comprising a rigid or semi-rigid plate having an edge face provided with a plurality of recesses spaced so as to define alternating edge portions and recesses along the length of the edge face, the dimension of each recess along said'edge face being greater than the dimension of each edge portion along said edge face, each recess having opposite walls extending from said edge face with a bridaing wall therebetween, each recess wall being inclined to said edge face at an angle in the range 650 to 900.
Preferably, the length of each recess wall is at least 8mm and advantageously at least 10 mm.
It is also preferrred that the bridging wall of each recess is concave.
The depth of each recess from said edge face is preferably at least 15 mm.
It is also preferred that the dimension of each recess along said edge face is at least twice the dimension of each edge portion along said edge face.
The preferred said dimension of each edge portion is about 5 mm and the preferred said dimension of each recess is about 15 mm.
The inclination of said recess walls to said edge face is preferably from 750 to 900 and most effectively at 850 to 900.
The thickness of the plate is preferably at least 2 mm.
It is envisaged that the device will usually have two or three said recesses, although more may be provided.
The device may be designed as a key fob e.g. having two said recesses.
The device is preferably of plastics construction, e.g. an injection moulding. Other edge faces of the plate may have their edges radiussed, but it is preferred that at least one sharp edge (e.g. a 900 angle) is provided for use as a scraper.
Reference is now made to the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig 1 is a plan view of a device according to the invention, Fig 2 is a sectional view of the device on the line 2--2 of Fig 1, and Fig 3 is a sectional view of the device on the line 3--3 of Fig 1, partly broken away.
The device shown comprises an injection moulded plate 11 having an edge face 12 provided with sharp edges at 900 where the edge face adjoins the main faces, 13,14 of the plate.
The face 15 opposite to the edge face 12 has its edges radiussed to define a convex shape (fig 3).
The other, intervening faces 16,17 have one radiussed edge 18,19 each and one sharp edge 20,21 each (fig 2).
The corners 22,23 of the plate, opposite to said edge face 12 are also radiussed.
The radiussed edges provide a good "feel" to the device when the device is used and the sharp edges are usable for cleaning purposes for scraping mud from surfaces.
The said edge face 12 is provided with three recesses 30 defining four edge portions 31. Each edge portion has a dimension along the face of 5 mm and each recess has a division along the face of 15 mm. The thickness of the plate is 3 mm.
Each recess has opposite walls 32 extending from the edge face 12 at about 900. The opposite walls are interconnected by a concave wall 33. The length of each said opposite wall 32 is 10 to 15 mm and the depth of each recess 30 from said edge face 12 is 15 to 20 mm.
The walls of the recesses meet the main faces 13,14 at sharp edges.
In use, the device is used to scrape mud from a golf-shoe sole with the studs passing through the recesses. The design is such that obstruction from the studs is minimised, irrespective of their positioning. The edges are also usable for cleaning other parts of a shoe, e.g. a welt and for cleaning other items, such as golf trolley wheels.
