Abstract

The remote control system comprises a receiver associated with the door or gate actuator (2), a transmitter (3) and at least one push-button (5) for operating the transmitter. The transmitter is adapted to be mounted on the structure of a vehicle, eg in the front, and the operating button is adapted to be included in the dashboard of the vehicle, eg adjacent switches for the windscreen defroster or headlights. <IMAGE>

Description

A VEHICLE-MOUNTED REMOTE CONTROL SYSTEM FOR AN ACTUATOR FOR A GATE, A DOOR OR THE LIKE The present invention relates to a remote control system for an actuator for a gate, a door or the like, of the type comprising a receiver associated with the actuator, a transmitter, and at least one push-button for operating the transmitter, characterised in that the transmitter is adapted to be fixed to the structure of a vehicle and in that the operating button is adapted to be included in the dashboard of the vehicle.
The invention is intended, in particular, for application to a motor vehicle but its application to boats or aircraft is not excluded.
The use of actuators for gates, doors and the like which can be operated by remote control, for example, by radio waves, is now widespread. Such systems enable the driver of a motor vehicle to open a gate remotely even before he stops in front of the gate, that is, during the approach manoeuvre. The operations necessary to find the portable box housing the control device, pick it up and operate it, however, are detrimental to safe driving.
The invention prevents this problem since, in its condition of use, the transmitter is fixed to the structure of the motor vehicle, preferably in the front region thereof, whilst the operating button is integrated with the controls of the vehicle itself and can therefore be reached quickly, easily and safely by the driver.
The invention will now be described with reference to the appended drawings, provided purely by way of non-limiting example, in which: Figure 1 is a view showing an embodiment of the invention, and Figure 2 is a simplified diagram of the system according to the invention.
With reference to Figure 1, a gate, generally indicated 1, can be opened and closed by an actuator 2. A remote control system associated with the actuator 2 includes a radio transmitter 3 mounted in the front part of a motor vehicle 4. The signals emitted by the transmitter 3 are received, in known manner, by a receiver (not shown) associated with the actuator 2.
The transmitter 3 also has an operating push-button 5 remote from the transmitter 3 and mounted on the dashboard of the motor vehicle (see Figure 1).
Figure 2 shows the connection of the radio transmitter 3 to one pole of the battery 9 of the motor vehicle by means of a connector 6, a wire 7 and the switch 5, the other pole of the battery being connected to earth, as is the second wire 8 extending from the radio transmitter 3. The structure of the transmitter may be formed in any known manner. It is preferably of the super-regeneratiye or quartz type. The electronic circuit includes a voltage stabiliser which supplies a constant voltage to the radio portion regardless of any changes to which the battery of the motor vehicle may be subject. The radio transmitter consists of an integrated circuit with microswitches for encoding the signal and a radio portion with a tuning unit for transmitting the encoded signal.
Naturally, however, any other remote control device may be used instead of the radio control device.
Moreover, the supply of the transmitter by batteries other than the motor-vehicle battery is not excluded.
In any case, the supply is a 12-volt direct-current supply. The supply/stabiliser portion at the input of the transmitter may adaptable to different voltages, should these be available. The housing of the transmitter 3 is parallelepipedal. In one embodiment, the dimensions of the housing were 100 x 58 x 22 mm.
Naturally, the operating button 5 could be positioned in any convenient manner. One possibility is to place the push-button adjacent other control buttons such as the push-button for operating the windscreen defroster or the like. Alternatively, the distributor control may be associated with the device which switches on the headlights of the vehicle. In other words, the remote control device may be operated by the same operation as that which switches on the headlights.
Naturally, the principle of the invention remaining the same, the details of construction and forms of embodiment may be varied widely with respect to those described and illustrated purely by way of example, without thereby departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (6)

1. A remote control system for an actuator for a gate, a door or the like, comprising a receiver associated with the actuator, a transmitter (3), and at least one push-button (5) for operating the transmitter (3), characterised in that the transmitter (3) is adapted to be mounted on the structure of a vehicle and in that the operating button (5) is adapted to be included in the dashboard of the vehicle.
2. A control system according to Claim 1, characterised in that tht transmitter is adapted to be fixed to the front part of tbe structure of a motor vehicle.
3. A control system according to Claim 2, characterised in that the transmitter (3) is connected to the battery which supplies the electrical system of the motor vehicle.
4. A control system according to Claim 2, characterised in that the operating button coincides with the device which switches on the headlights of the motor vehicle.
5. A remote control system, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
6. A motor vehicle wiw a contol system according to one or more of the preceding claims.
