Abstract

Packaging e.g. for a bottle is of the type of which at least one part, if not the whole, is produced from a single piece using a blank made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard or other material in sheet form, suitably cut and grooved. This blank is reversible, in such a way that the part corresponding to the packaging is capable of being presented as desired with two different aspects, being differentiated from each other at least by the decoration, this decoration being able, for example, to comprise on one side the representation (28) of the contained product and, on the other side, that of a gift wrapping. <IMAGE>

Description

"Packaging at least partly reversible" The present invention relates in a general way to packagings, and it is directed more particularly at those among such packagings of which at least a part, if not the whole, is produced from a single piece using a blank made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard or other material in sheet form, suitably cut and grooved.
These packagings are normally intended for the containment, individual or not, of any product.
In a general way, the present invention has as its objective an arrangement of such a kind as to allow them to fulfil, to their advantage and very simply, an additional function.
According to this arrangement, the blank forming at least part of such a packaging is reversible, in such a way that the said part is capable of presenting, as desired, two different aspects.
For example, from one of its aspects to the other, this part is differentiated at least by its decoration, and this decoration, while suggestive of the product concerned on a first side of the corresponding blank, for the identification of this product by the purchaser, is suggestive of a gift wrapping on the opposite side of this blank, allowing the receiver the pleasure of discovering the nature of the product which is given to him.
In a variant, or in association, from one of its aspects to the other, the part of the packaging in question may be differentiated at least by its outer volume.
This then results in an additional attractive feature for the said packaging.
The characteristics and advantages of the invention will also emerge from the description which follows, given as an example, where reference is made to the appended diagrammatic drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view, seen from the front, of a packaging according to the invention in its aspect of containment; Figure 2 is a perspective view, seen from the rear, of this packaging in the same aspect of containment; Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank forming this packaging, showing a first side of this blank; Figure 4 is another plan view of this blank, showing the other side of it; Figure 5 is a perspective view, seen from the front, of the packaging according to the invention in its aspect of a gift wrapping; Figure 6 is a perspective view of another packaging according to the invention, shown closed, seen in the first of its aspects;; Figure 7 is an exploded perspective view of this packaging, shown open; Figure 8 is a perspective view of this packaging similar to that in Figure 6, seen in the second of its aspects.
These figures illustrate, as an example, the application of the invention to the containment of a bottle, not represented.
In the form of embodiment more particularly represented in Figures 1 to 5, the packaging 10 assembled for that purpose comprises only a single part, and it is produced in its entirety from a single piece using a blank 10' made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard or other material in sheet form, suitably cut and grooved.
In Figures 3 and 4 representative of this blank 10', the lines to be cut have been represented in a conventional way by full lines, and the lines to be grooved, which form the folding lines, have been represented by broken lines.
In the form of embodiment represented, the packaging 10 has the overall shape of a parallelepiped and it comprises on the one hand three longitudinal side panels with an overall rectangular outline, namely, a central panel 11 and, connected to the latter by the folding lines 12, two lateral panels 13, and on the other hand, connected to the central panel 11 by the folding lines 14 perpendicular to the above folding lines 12, two transverse side panels 15.
Beyond the folding lines 16 parallel to the folding lines 12, the lateral panels 13 are each respectively extended by closing and locking flaps 18, the free edge of which forms, in its median part, for each of them but in a head-to-tail manner from one to the other, hooks 19 having a substantially rounded outline.
Beyond the folding lines 20 parallel to the folding lines 14, the transverse side panels 15 are themselves extended by flaps 21.
Finally, the lateral panels 13 are connected to the transverse side panels 15 by pleats 22, which are connected to the lateral panels 13 by the folding lines 23 perpendicular to the folding lines 12 and 16 and to the transverse side panels 15 by the folding lines 24 substantially perpendicular to the folding lines 14 and 20, and which, each being formed from two intermediate panels 25, each present obliquely emerging at 450 from the corresponding angle of the central panel 11, a folding line 26 by which these intermediate panels 25 are connected to each other.
According to the invention, the blank 10' is reversible, the folding lines 12, 14, 16, 20, 23, 24 and 26 which affect it also being capable of being involved just as easily in one direction of folding as in the other.
As a result of this, the packaging 10 is capable of being presented as desired in either of two different aspects, one corresponding to the first side of the blank 10', the other corresponding to its other side.
In the form of embodiment represented, from one of these aspects to the other, the packaging 10 is differentiated by its decoration.
For example, and as is represented, this decoration is suggestive of the product concerned on a first side of the blank 10' by carrying on its central panel 11 a representation 28 of this product, in this case a bottle, Figures 1 and 3, and it is suggestive of a gift wrapping on the opposite side of this blank 10' by comprising transversely, through the longitudinal side-panels 11 and 13 from one of the hooks 19 to the other, closing and locking flaps 18, in continuation of these hooks 19, the representation 29 of a ribbon, Figures 4 and 5, the hooks 19 themselves then indicating, by their rounded outline, the loops by which such a ribbon may be tied.
Of course, the representation 28 of a bottle and the representation 29 of a ribbon may be obtained by printing.
However, it may just as easily be obtained by representations in relief, using for example attached elements, or using elements obtained by embossing.
Preferentially, in addition, if, on the side on which the representation 28 of a bottle occurs, the blank 10' shows a normal neutral colour, grey for example, it shows, on the side on which the representation 29 of a ribbon occurs, a richer colour, for example, a golden colour, from which that of this representation 29 stands out.
In its containment aspect, Figures 1 and 2, the packaging 10 according to the invention allows the appearance, on its front panel, which is then formed by its central panel 11, of the representation 28 of a bottle, by being closed at its rear by the closing and locking flaps 18 duly engaged with each other by their hooks 19, Figure 2.
In its gift wrapping aspect, Figure 5, the packaging 10 according to the invention allows, on the contrary, the appearance of the representation 29 of a ribbon by simulating, through the hooks 19 on its front panel, then formed by the closing and locking flaps 18 and by the closing flaps 21, the knots of such a ribbon.
In both cases, the assembly of the packaging 10 according to the invention into a volume is carried out by raising the lateral panels 13 and the transverse side panels 15 so that they are perpendicular to the central panel 11, which leads the intermediate panels 25 of the pleats 22 to become superimposed on each other by folding around the corresponding oblique folding lines 26, then by folding over the closing flaps 21 and, finally, by folding over the closing and locking flaps 18 and by engaging these closing and locking flaps 18 into each other by their hooks 19.
In the form of embodiment represented in Figures 6 to 8, the packaging 10 according to the invention is of the type like that described in the French patent application filed on 10 October 1989 under the number 89 13 200.
This packaging 10 will therefore not be described in all its details here.
It will be sufficient to indicate that it is in two parts, namely a box body 10A and a lid 10B, with a polygonal transverse cross-section, for example octagonal, and that the box body 10A, at least, is produced from a single piece using a blank made of cardboard, corrugated cardboard or other material in sheet form, suitably cut and grooved.
Overall, this box body 10A comprises a bottom panel 30 and a plurality of rectangular side panels 31 which, emerging from the bottom panel 30, are connected continuously to each other by pleats 32.
As before, these pleats 32 are formed from two intermediate panels 33 and present obliquely a folding line 34 by which these intermediate panels 33 are connected to each other.
In the French patent application no 89 13 200, it is provided that the pleats 32 project into the interior of the box body 10A, thus with advantage serving as elements in which the product concerned is wedged.
According to the invention, the blank forming this box body 10A is reversible, so that, as before, this box body 10A is capable of being presented as desired with two different aspects.
However, from one of its aspects to the other, this box body 10A is then differentiated at least by its external volume, according as to whether, as provided for in the French patent application no 89 13 200, the pleats 32 extend into the inside of its interior volume or whether, as represented in Figure 8, they extend to its outside.
Of course, from one to the other of its two aspects, the box body 10A may also be differentiated by its decoration.
In any event, the lid 10B is always suitable for its closure.
In the above description, it was assumed that only the box body 10A was produced using a reversible blank.
It goes without saying, however, that it may just as easily be the same for the lid 10B.
In addition, the present invention is not limited to the forms of embodiment described and represented, but embraces any variant of the execution.
