Abstract

A connector 10 for attachment to an elongate member 26, comprises a U-shaped element formed in one piece of resilient material and having a body portion 12 and two limbs 14, 16 shaped so that the ends 18, 20 of the limbs overlap one another. The inner edges of the limbs 14, 16 and the body portion 12 together bounding an opening for receiving such elongate member 26 and the outer edges 18, 20 of the overlapping portions of the two limbs 14, 16 being equidistant from the body portion 12. The connector 10 may be attached to the elongate member 26 by forcing apart the overlapping portions 18, 20 of the two limbs 14, 16 in a direction normal to the general plane of the connector. <IMAGE>

Description

DETACHABLE CONNECTOR This invention relates to a detachable connector for attachment to an elongate member and has particular, but not exclusive, application to the attachment of a hood or an apron to the frame of a pushchair.
According to the invention, a connector for detachable attachment to an elongate member comprises a Ushaped element formed of resilient material and shaped so that the ends of its limbs overlap one another.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a side view of a conector clip in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a pram view of the clip shown in Figure 1 in the correct orientation to be attached to an adjacent elongate member; Figure 3 is a side view of the clip after it has been attached to the elongate member shown in Figure 2; and Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4 4 in Figure 3.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a clip 10 in accordance with the invention comprises a central region 12 from which projects two arcuate limbs 14 and 16 which are disposed at an angle to one another so that their free ends 18 and 20 overlap with a small intervening clearance equal to about twice the thickness of the material of which they are made. The central portion 12 contains an elongate slot 22 to which an end of a fabric tape 24 may be attached, as shown in Figures 3 and 4.
The clip 10 is made of resilient plastic material such as polypropylene.
If the clip 10 is positioned relative to a cylindrical member, such as the tubular member 26, as shown in Figure 2, and the ends 18 and 20 pressed against the curved surface of the tubular member 26, the limbs 14 and 16 are forced apart, allowing the clip 10 to snap on to the tubular member 26 as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The clip can be detached by grasping the body- portion 12 and twisting it in a clockwise direction relative to the tubular member 26, thereby forcing the ends 18 and 20 of the limbs 14 and 16 apart.
Alternatively, if the clip 10 is to be attached to an elongate member of angular cross-section, it is initially positioned so that the ends 18 and 20 embrace one of the angles.

Claims (6)

1. A connector for attachment to an elongate member, comprising a U-shaped element formed of resilient material and shaped so that the ends of its limbs overlap one another.
2. A connector according to claim 1, wherein the limbs are of arcuate shape so as to bound a circular opening.
3. A connector according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the overlapping ends of the limbs are spaced apart by a distance of between one and three times the thickness thereof.
4. A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein the limbs extend from a body portion containing an elongate slot.
5. A connector for attachment to an elongate member, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
CLAIMS 1. A connector for attachment to an elongate member, comprising a U-shaped element formed in one piece of resilient material and having a body portion and two limbs shaped so that the ends of the limbs overlap one another, the inner edges of the limbs and the.body'portion together bounding an opening for receiving such elongate member and the outer edges of the overlapping portions of the two limbs being equidistant from the body portion.
2. A connector according to claim 1, wherein the limbs are of arcuate shape so as to bound a circular opening.
3. A connector according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the overlapping ends of the limbs are spaced apart by a distance of between one and three times the thickness thereof.
4. A connector according to any preceding claim, wherein the body portion contains an elongate slat.
5. A connector for attachment to an elongate member, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
6. A method of attaching a connector, according to any preceding claim, to an elongate member, comprising positioning the connector with the outer edges of the overlapping portions of the two limbs abutting a convex surface of the elongate member and a normal to the mutually confronting surfaces of said overlapping portions perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of said elongate member, pushing the body portion of the connector towards the elongate member so that initially said convex surface forces said overlapping portions apart from each other and subsequently the connector turns through 90" when the free ends of the limbs reach the opposite side of the elongate member to the body portion.
