Abstract

The arrangement comprises a hot outer case and a keep (Figure 6) a slider, four combination pins (Figure 10) four combination pin springs (Figure 11), and four combination dials each numbered 0 to 9, (Figure 12). To unfasten the arrangement the correct combination numbers are selected, a lug at the correct number pushing the combination pins down into the slider. The outer case and keep have screw holes as shown. The numbers may be coated in luminous paints and the combination may be lined up with a line on outer case in luminous paint. <IMAGE>

Description

COMBINATION CHILD SAFETY BOLT.
This invention relates to a combination child safety bolt.
Ordinary bolts comprise of three main parts. A bolt outer case, the main bolt, i.e. the part that slides forward and locks in to a keep, and thirdly the keep which is screwed on to the outer frame.
According to the present invention there are four combination dials on the child safety bolt, which allows you to lock the bolt but not open it without having the correct combination number. The safety bolt also has thicker metal at the top of th ,r case to allow room for the combination pins to fit in to. There are four combination pins which are sloped at the front to allow the bolt to be locked but not opened.
It is necessary to have a left handed and a right handed bolt, for example: If a gate was hinged in the right hand side, then a left handed bolt would be used, and vice versa.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: 1/5 shows the complete arrangement of the combination bolt. There are two views. The top drawing Figure 1 is the elevation view, and the bottom drawing Figure 2 is the front view.
2/5 shows two inside views of the bolt and details of the combination pin and dial. The top drawing Figure 3 shows the operation of the bolt in the locked position. The bottom drawing Figure 4 shows the operation of the bolt in the open position.
3t shows two views of the bolt outer case. The top drawing Figure 5 shows the elevation view. The bottom drawing Figure 6 shows the front view of the bolt outer case.
d/5 shows three views of the slider. The top drawing Figure 7 is the plan view. The middle drawing Figure 8 shows the elevation view. The bottom drawing Figure 9 shows the head on view of the slider with the combination pin and spring taken out.
5/5 shows details of the combination pin, the pin spring, and the dial.
The top two drawings Figure 10 shows the combination pin side view, and the combination pin back view. The middle two drawings Figure 11 shows the combination pin spring. The bottom drawing Figure 12 shows two views of the dial. The left hand drawing is the head on view and the right hand drawing is the plan view showing the numbers to select the combination.
Referring to the drawing, the combination child safety bolt comprises of a bolt outer case and one keep,Fimure 6, a slider Figure 8, and four combination pins Figure 10. The bolt also has four combination pin springs Figure 11 and four dials numbered 0 to 9, Figure 12.
The bolt outer case Figure 6 has thicker metal at the top with four grooves in it to allow the combination pins Figure 10 to fit into.
The bolt outer case Figures 5 and 6 also has two runners. These runners fit into two grooves, one either side of the slider, Figures 7 and 8. This is to stop the slider from twisting.
The combination pins themselves are sloped at the front so that when the slider Figure 8 is moved forward, the combination pins Figure 10 are allowed to move with the slider Figure 8. When the slider is moved fully forward, the combination pins, Figure 10 shoot up into the slots in the bolt outer case Figures 5 and 6. The combination pins also have two lugs. This is to allow the combination pin springs Figure 11 to push the combination pins Figure 10 up into the slots in the outer case.
This operation puts the combination child safety bolt in the lock position, see Figure 3.
To open the combination child safety bolt, turn each of the four dials Figure 12 to the selected combination number and pull back the slider Figures 7 and 8. Each dial Figure 12 has a lug fitted at a different number. When the dials are turned, and the lugs move up to the top of the bolt outer case Figure 6, the lugs on the dials Figure 12 then push the combination pins Figure 10 down into the slider, Figures 7 and 8. When all four combination pins Figure 10 are pushed down into the slider, Figure 7 and 8, the combination child safety bolt can be opened, see Figure 4.

Claims (8)

1. A combination child safety bolt comprising a slider, a bolt outer case which has six screw holes, four dials which are numbered 0 to 9, four combination pins, four combination pin springs, and one keep which has two screw holes.
2. A combination child safety bolt as in claim 1 has two grooves in the aide of the slider, and two runners in the side of the bolt outer case. This is to stop the slider from twisting round.
3. A combination child safety bolt as in claim 1 and 2 has four slots in the top of the slider for the combination pins and the combination pin springs to fit in to.
4. A combination child safety bolt as in claim 1, 2, and 3 is thicker metal at the top of the outer case and has four slots in the thicker part for the combination pins to fit in to when in the lock position.
5. A combination child safety bolt as in claim 1 has four dials numbered 0 to 9. These numbere should be coated in illuminous paint to show up in the dark.
6. A combination child safety bolt has a line on the front of the bolt outer case to line the correct combination up. This line should also be coated in illuminous paint to show up in the dark.
7. A combination child safety bolt as claimed in any preceding claim has four combination pins. Each combination pin is sloped at the front to allow the slider to move forward but not move back when in the lock position.
