Abstract

A clod scrubber/crumbler arrangement for reduction of clods on stone and clod separators to reduce volume of clods discharged from separator into ridge for burial or surface windrowing during stone and clod separating. The arrangement comprises a fixed slatted bolt 2 suspended over a similar but moving slatted conveyor 1 to achieve a "scrubbing" and therefore reducing effect on any large clods passing between the two slatted belts. The fixed slatted belt is variable in tension by operation of actuator 4 (electric or hydraulic) and in pressure by spring loaded pressure pads 7 which can either be adjusted manually or by electric or hydraulic actuator. As soil with clods and stones pass up slatted conveyor belt, tension and pressure can be varied from tractor seat control position to achieve best results relative to varying field conditions. <IMAGE>

Description

CLOD CRUIILER ARRaNGFwNT FOR STONE & CLOD SEPARATOR Qhe present invention relates to improvement to stone and clod separating machines to increase their ability to crumble and reduce clods, thereby allowing them to pass through the separator elatted belt and return to the separated soil bed rather than be passed into the ridge bottoms for burial or surface windrowing.
It has always been a problem in certain soil conditions where large volumes of clod occur, that when separating prior to planting potatoes or other vegetables a large proportion of clods (greater in size than gaps in slatted belt being used) are passed into the ridge bottom and thereby cause irregularities in the planting of the potatoes and the ridges being formed by the following planter.
2he use of a "scrubber" slatted belt suspended over the moving "separator" slatted belt is well known but this has only been in a fixed situation depending on its own mass for "scrubbing" effect. Also, in any one field conditions can vary over the length of the field whereby it is desirable to have, for example, severe scrubbing effect at one part and further along the row conditions could be entirely different and it could be then desirable to reduce or remove pressure from scrubber slatted belt, for example, to prevent flat stones being forced through separating slatted belt.
According to the present invention the scrubber slatted belt can be increased or decreased in tension and pressure on the move. Tension on scrubber slatted belt can be increased or decreased by the operation of electric or hydraulic actuator to allow it to bear heavier or lighter on material passing under it up the separating slatted belt, or, if required, lifted clear of material on separating slatted belt altogether.
An arrangement of spring loaded pads are mounted on pivoting shafts across the width of the machine with the pads bearing on the back of the "scrubber" slatted belt rods. these pads can be pre-loaded against the rods in various tensions by hand adjustment and then "scrubbing" effect adjusted by varying tension of "scrubber" slatted belt by hydraulic or electrical actuator.
Alternatively the tension of the "scrubber" slatted belt can be pre-adjusted manually by hand ratchet system on winder tube (in place of hydraulic or electric actuator) and then pressure can be varied on the spring loaded pads by hydraulic or electric actuators operating through linkage to the pivoting shafts carrying the spring loaded pads.
xhe spring loading arrangement shown utilises a torsion spring but the same effect could be achieved by using rigid stems to pressure pads with either compressions springs or extension springs linked to them at their upper ends to apply pressure and achieve same effect.
Big. No. 1 shows two pivoting shafts but more or less shafts and pressure pads per shaft could be fitted as required.
REFERRING TO FIG. 1 2his shows a cross section through separator showing the separator web 1 and scrubber web 2.
The roller chain mechanism on winder 3 is operated by hydraulic or electric acctuator 4 to increase or release tension of scrubber web.
Also shown is the pivoting shafts 5 with torsion spring arms and pressure pads 6 & 7 bearing on rods of scrubber web.
The hand adjuster 8 can be set in different positions on quadrant 9 to achieve varying pressure on scrubber web.
Alternatively a hydraulic or electric actuator 10 can be applied to operate on manage 11 to increase or decrease pressure on scrubber web from separator control panel on tractor.
Control of the scrubbir4crumbling operation can then be carried out by either operating actuator 4 to vary tension of scrubber web or by acctuator 10 to vary pressure on scrubber web or by a combination of both actuators.

Claims (4)

C1AI
1. A stone and clod separator having a slatted steel bar "scrubber" belt, suspended over main separating slatted conveyor belt, which can be adjusted while on the move both in tension and bearing pressure, so as to control crumbling effect of "scrubber" belt on clod material being conveyed through the machine on the slatted conveyor belt.
2. A stone and clod separator as in claim 1 having a slatted steel bar "scrubber" belt suspended over main separating slatted conveyor belt and having one end attached to anchorages on the machine and the other end attached to a hydraulic or electric actuator which can be operated to increase or decrease tension of belt from separator control panel on tractor while on the move.
3. A stone and clod separator as in claim 2 having a slatted steel bar "scrubber" belt suspended over main separating slatted conveyor belt and having an arrangement of spring-loaded pressure pads bearing on bars of scrubber belt which can be adjusted manually to increase or decrease load exerted on clod passing up slatted conveyor belt.
4. A stone and clod separator as in claim 3 having a slatted steel bar "scrubber" belt suspended over main separator slatted conveyor belt, and having an arrangement or spring-loaded pressure pads bearing on bars of scrubber web which can be adjusted by electric or hydraulic actuator on the move to increase the load exerted on clod passing up the slatted conveyor belt.
