Description
COMPRESSOR
The present invention relates to a gas compressor and to a particular form of conduit for the intake of gas to the compressor, which can be used in particular in refrigerating appliances for domestic use.
For the purposes of better illustrating the present invention, for the purposes of the present explanation it is assumed that said conduit operates in close association with the compressor and that it is made of moulded or injection-moulded plastics, without naturally that limiting the invention to just that type of material and to that connection.
In an electrical compressor for refrigerating use, the refrigerating gas coming from the intake tube passes into the interior of the sealed casing of the compressor and then expands.
The body of the compressor has an intake tube connected to the intake valve by means of multiple ducts and valves which permit the gas which is taken in to be conveyed to the interior of the cylinder.
Being in contact with all the hot surfaces of the compressor, during those flows the gas heats up and undergoes a reduction in its density. That results in a reduction in the degree of filling of the cylinder and thus ultImately in a reduction in the refrigerating capacity of the compressor.
In addition the flow of the gas gives rise to a substantial level of intake noise which is directly transmitted to the exterior of the housing of the compressor.
These factors very frequently result in unsatisfactory operation from the point of view of quietness.
The aim of the present invention is therefore to overcome the above described disadvantages and to provide an apparatus which is reliable, economical and simple to fit with the use of materials and techniques which are permitted by the present state of the art.
According to the present invention, there is provided a compressor comprising an external casing, an internal compressor body, a cylinder head and an intake tube for the gas into the casing, wherein a silencer conduit is interposed between said casing and the cylinder head.
The invention will be further described by way of non-limitative example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of the interior of the housing of the compressor with the apparatus shown in a front view, formed by a connection conduit between the intake for the gas from the exterior of the compressor and the cylinder head,
Figure 2 is a front view of the inside of the top of the conduit,
Figure 3 is a sectional side view of the same detail,
Figure 4 is a front view of the inside of the body of the conduit,
Figure 5 is a sectional side view of the same detail, and
Figure 6 is a view on an enlarged scale of a part of the preceding figure.
The general concept of the invention is that the flow of gas coming from the intake conduit is not dispersed in the housing in order then to be drawn into the intake tube provided in the compressor body, but is immediately "intercepted" and directed towards said head without being allowed to diffuse.
A conduit is arranged and mounted to achieve this effect, the conduit guiding the flow of gas and connecting on the one hand the zone facing towards the hole for intake of the gas into the housing and on the other hand the intake hole in the cylinder head.
The separation effect which is thus enjoyed by the flow of gas and the particular individualised flow path achieve the result of preventing overheating of the gas and cutting off the noise of the intake of gas within said conduit.
The compressor illustrated in the drawings is intended for use as the compressor in the refrigerant circuit of a domestic refrigerator. Such a circuit, as is well known, comprises a refrigerant-evaporator, -condensor and -expansion device.
With reference to figure 1, this shows the hermetically sealed compressor casing 1 in which are mounted the compressor comprising a compressor body 2 and cylinder head 3, as well as a conduit 4, seen from the top thereof and an intake tube 5 for the refrigerating gas.
Figures 2 and 3 show the following components: an internal wall 5 for guiding the flow at the intake, two flow guise vanes 6 and an intake 7 for the gas.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show the following details: the body 8 of the conduit; a hole 9 for admission of the gas in the intake valve; mounting grooves 10 for the internal walls and the vanes which are fixed in the top; a vane 11 for deflection of the gas coming from the intake tubes; a circular discharge groove 12 which is peripheral to the hole 9.
Connected to the head 3 of the cylinder of the compressor is the conduit 4, that is to say an intake silencer device of plastics material, with a hole 7 for intake of the gas and a hole 9 for discharge. The refrigerating gas, by way of the intake tube 5, passes into the interior of the sealed casing 1 of the compressor.
The hole 7 being provided in the conduit in alignment with the tube 5, a good part of the gas passes directly into the conduit and thus into the cylinder head, through the intake valve.
The cylinder head/conduit coupling is provided by means of a collar portion of cylindrical shape (see part A) provided around the hole 9 for admission into the cylinder head.
The conduit 4 is connected to the head by means of a force fit of the collar portion with a slight degree of interference in order to ensure a gas-tight sealing effect.
Provided around the sealing collar portion is a discharge means 12 for recovery of the shavings of plastics material produced by the fitting operation.
For fixing the silencer means to the cylinder head, it is possible to use a spring clip which for locking thereof makes use of a screw which is engaged into the fixing of the cylinder head.
It will be appreciated that the confiration described and shown with reference to the accompanying drawings has been set forth solely by way of example of the invention and that many alterations and modifications may be made without thereby departing from the present invention.
