Abstract

A hanger (10) for an article comprises a first part (12) by which the hanger is attached to or located on a display stand and a second pan (24) of adjustable size to retain an article by encircling a part thereof. The second part may be a strap of resiliently deformable material an end of which is retainable in a part of or associated with the hanger so as to form a loop within which an article can be retained. This retaining part may have a tooth that engages one of the corresponding tooth formations (30) on the strap. <IMAGE>

Description

Title: Article Hanger DESCRIPTION This invention concerns hangers for articles particularly spectacles or spectacle frames.
An object of this invention is to provide a hanger for articles for display purposes and in particular for spectacles and spectacle frames.
According to tne invention there is provided a hanger for an article comprising a first part by which the hanger is attached to or located on a display stand and a second part of adjustable size to retain an article by encircling a part thereof.
The first part of the hanger of the invention preferably has a hole or slot therethrough, whereby the hanger can be located on a hook or the like of a display stand. Typically said hole or slot will be a so-called Euro-slot. The first part of the hanger is also preferably shaped and adapted to receive one or more labels showing information about the article displayed, such as size and price. Preferably, therefore, the first part of the hanger is substantially flat, whereby adhesive labels may be affixed thereto. Areas for labels may be defined on one surface of the first part of the hanger by raised perimeters therefor. For a rectangular first part of a hanger, for example, one large label area may be definea covering substantially the width of the first part and say two thirds of its height with smaller areas defined above it either side of the location hole or slot.
The second part of the hanger preferably comprises a strap of resiliently deformable material, such as of polypropylene, which may be integral with or otherwise connected to the first hanger part at one eno. The other end of the strap is preferably retainable in a part of or associated with the hanger so as to form a loop within which an article can be retained.
The size of the loop is preferably adjustable by the strap being locatable in said retainer part at different positions along the strap. That may be achieved by said retainer part having a tooth or the like that engages one of corresponding tooth formations on the strap. The retainer part is preferably formed as a bridge upstanding from a face of the first hanger part, preferably its intended rear face, the bridge having on its underside said tooth or the like and the strap being passable under said bridge for one of said teeth of the strap to engage therewith. The resilience of the strap will preferably be such as to urge the corresponding teeth into engagement but the bridge will preferably be so spaced from the hanger first part that pressure on the strap towards the hanger first part will release the engaged teeth so that the strap can be ready untied or undone for release of an article held thereby.
The hangers of the invention are particularly useful for displaying spectacles or spectacle frames on a display stana having hooks on which to hang articles.
Since spectacle frames come with differently sized nose bridges, one design of strap according to tne invention can be used for virtually all spectacles because of the ability to adjust the size of the loop formed by the strap. Also, information about the spectacles or frames can be displayed clearly on the hangers.
The preferred hangers of the invention are moulded in one piece from suitable plastics material, such as polypropylene, which may also be suitably coloured or pigmented for an attractive appearance.
The invention will now be further described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a plan view of a hanger; Figure 2 is a section on line AA of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a section on line BB of Figure 1; Figure 4 shows enlarged detail of a part of the hanger of Figure 1; and Figure 5 shows yet further enlarged detail of a part of the hanger of Figure 1.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, a hanger 10 suitable for displaying spectacles or spectacle frames is moulded in one piece from plastics material, such as polypropylene. The hanger 10 comprises a label part 12 which is rectangular and relatively flat. On one face are raised walls 14 defining a first larger space 16 in which a main label may be affixed, two smaller spaces 18 above the space 16 and separated by a space 20 containing an opening 22 of the Euro-slot type, whereby the hanger may be located on a hook of a display stand.
Extending from one edge of the label part 12 is a flexible strap 24 which may be bent backwards upon itself to form a loop 26 (see Figure 4) which will encircle an article to be retained therein. The strap 24 has on one side a series of teeth 30 each having one sloping face 32 at about 20 degrees relative to the strap and perpendicular face 34 relative to the strap. Each tooth is intended to engage a correspondingly shaped tooth formation 38 on the underside of a bridge piece 40 on the back face of the label and through which the strap fits to form a loop. The strap 24 has a pointed and tapered end 42 to facilitate invention thereof under the bridge 40. The series of teeth on the strap allow it to be engaged at different positions to form differently sized loops to suit differently sizea articles.
The resilience of the strap material helps to urge the respective teeth into engagement (see Figures 4 and 5 ) but pressure on the strap towards the label part of the hanger gives just sufficient movement to disengage the teeth for readjustment of the size of the loop or removal of an article from the hanger.
The hanger illustrated is particularly useful for displaying spectacles or spectacle frames by securing the strap about the nose bridge of the frame.
