Abstract

223,607. Barber-Colman Co., (Assignees of Petersen, B. A.). Oct. 18, 1023, [Convention date]. Yarns, leasing.-In a ball warper or other warping machine the warp yarns or the ends, which pass over a roller 1 to a beam (not shown) are leased by means of a comb comprising splits or teeth 15 secured to a back 16 and furnished with three series of lugs 17, 18, and 19. The lugs 17 close alternate spaces between the teeth, but the lugs 18, 19, which are bevelled at the tops, allow threads to move downwardly in the comb spaces but thereafter prevent upward movement of these threads. The teeth may be of varying lengths to divide the comb into sections corresponding to the vertical supply columns of, say, a V-shaped creel, each column of which may contain nine supply recesses. The yarns to be leased are passed over a roller 5 supported by arms 8 fixed to a shaft and provided with handles 9 each furnished with three recesses to co-operate with spring- pressed locking-balls carried by fixed parts whereby the handles and the shaft 5 can be held in three different positions. The operative places the warp threads in the correct order in the spaces between the comb teeth and connects the threads to the beam. He then moves a rod 4 carried by arms 6 from a position where it is supported clear of the threads by lugs 14 to a position where it is supported by lugs 13 on the arms 8. The threads are then depressed by operating one of the handles 9 and the lugs 17 form a shed into which a lease rod a is introduced. This rod is then moved over the roller 1 and the threads are next raised whereupon the lugs 18, 19 form another shed into which a second lease rod b is introduced. The rods a, b are replaced by tapes, the guide-rods 4, 5 are returned to a central position wherein they hold the threads clear of the lugs 17, 18 and winding then takes place.
