Abstract

A razor 1 comprises an elongate tubular handle 2 with a blade carrier assembly (3, Fig 2) mounted thereon. Provided within the handle is an elongate container 7 of a shaving medium, the container 7 having an outlet nozzle 8 from which shaving medium may be dispensed through an orifice 10 at the bottom of the handle. A flexible membrane 6 at the top of the handle may be depressed so as to move the container 7 downwards within the handle and cause shaving medium to be dispensed through orifice 10. The shaving medium is preferably foam but may be cream or gel. <IMAGE>

Description

A RAZOR The present invention relates to a razor.

Eladed razors which are used in conjunction with shaving cream, foam, gel or other shaving medium are preferred by many men to the use of electric razors.

Furthermore, such razors have the advantage that they may be mass produced as disposable razors.

In order to avoid the need to produce a separate supply of the shaving medium (ie. cream, foam etc.), it is already known for bladed razors to incorporate the shaving medium in their handle. This shaving medium may simply be dispensed from the handle into the hand of the user.

Thus, for example, EP-A-0 101 767 discloses a disposable razor in which the handle is an elongate aerosol container of shaving foam, which container has a nozzle at one end thereof for dispersing the foam.

The razor includes a removable cap which covers the nozzle and which in integral with a blade assembly.

The cap must be removed before foam can be dispensed.

US-A-4 753 006 describes a disposable razor with a hollow in which shaving cream (or gel) or a tube thereof may be located. Provided within the handle is a plunger operated by an external actuator button on the handle which when moved is effective to dispense the cream through an aperture in the lower end of the handle. However, the fact that a plunger is used means that the razor cannot be used for dispensing an aerosol foam.

According to the present invention there is provided a razor comprising an elongate tubular handle with a blade carrier assembly mounted thereon and having a shaving medium discharge orifice, an elongate container of a shaving medium mounted therein within the handle such that an outlet of the container communicates with the discharge orifice and such that the container is axially moveable within the handle to cause discharge of shaving medium through the orifice, and means on the handle for effecting said movement of the container to dispense shaving medium from the handle.

Preferably the container is an aerosol of shaving foam.

Preferably the shaving medium discharge orifice is provided towards an end of the handle.

Preferably also the blade carrier assembly is provided at or towards the one end (the "upper end") of the handle and the discharge orifice is the lower end of the handle. Moreover, the means for effecting movement of the container comprises a flexible membrane on the handle, which membrane may be depressed to effect said movement.

The invention will be further described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one embodiment of razor in accordance with the invention; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-section of the razor shown in Fig. 1, but omitting details of the blade cartridge; and As illustrated in Fig. 1, a razor 1 comprises an elongate handle 2 provided towards one end thereof with a blade carrier assembly 3 on which a blade cartridge 4 may be slidably mounted. The end of the handle 2 adjacent the blade carrier 3 is of reduced thickness so as to provide a flexible membrane 6 which serves as an actuator button as described more fully below.

Incorporated in the handle 2 of the razor is an aerosol container 7 of shaving foam. This container 7 extends substantially along the length of handle 2 and has at one end an actuator nozzle 8 which is is depressed.

Container 7 is orientated such that its actuator nozzle 8 is at the lower end of the handle 2 which is closed by a screw cap 9. This cap 9 has a discharge orifice 10.

The actuator nozzle 8 (of the container 7) locates within the orifice 10 and acts against a shoulder within this orifice. The opposite end (ie.

the base) of container 7 thus locates just below the membrane 6. A packing material 11 is provided as shown between the membrane 6 and the base of container 7. This packing is ideally of a resilient material, eg. plastics foam.

In order to dispense of shaving foam from the handle, membrane 6 is depressed so as to cause the container 7 to move axially towards the cap 9. The actuator nozzle 8 cannot advance relative to the handle, because it acts against the shoulder within the orifice 10, and thus the nozzle 8 if effectively depressed causing shaving foam material to be discharged via the orifice 10 out of the handle 2.

It will be appreciated that the illustrated razor is convenient to operate in that it is a simple matter for the membrane 6 to be depressed by the thumb of one hand and for the shaving foam to be dispensed into the other hand.

A number of modifications may be made to the illustrated razor. For example, it is not necessary for the cap 9 to be a screw fit on the handle. For example, the cap 9 could be located in position by a bayonet-type fixing. Furthermore, the container 7 could be one which dispenses a shaving medium other than foam, eg. a cream or a gel.

The illustrated razor may be manufactured to be disposable so that it is thrown away once the charge cf shaving medium in the container 7 is exhausted.

Alternatively, it would be possible to supply replacement (filled) container 7 which could simply be inserted into the razor in place of the empty container.

Claims

1. A razor comprising an elongate tubular handle with a blade carrier assembly mounted thereon and having a shaving medium discharge orifice, an elongate container of a shaving medium mounted within the handle such that an outlet of the container communicates with the discharge orifice and such that the container is axially moveable within the handle of to cause discharge of shaving medium through the orifice and means on the handle for effecting said movement of the container to dispense shaving medium from the handle.

2. A razor as claimed in claim 1 wherein the container is an aerosol of shaving foam.

3. A razor as claimed in claim 1 or 2 wherein the shaving medium discharge orifice is provided towards an end of the handle.

4. A razor as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3 wherein the blade carrier assembly is provided at or towards the upper end of the handle and the discharge orifice is the lower end of the handle.

5. A razor as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 4 wherein the means for effecting movement of the container comprises a flexible membrane on the handle, which membrane may be depressed to effect said movement.

6. A razor substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
