Abstract

A toy includes a head member having upper and lower jaws (12, 13), a hollow connector (14), an oscillatable actuating member (not shown), and a connecting element (19) passing through the hollow connector (14) and connecting the actuating member and the upper jaw (12), the jaws and a connecting hinge portion (18) being integrally moulded from elastic material, the hinge urging the jaws to an open position. <IMAGE>

Description

TOY The present invention relates to a toy, and more particularly to a toy having upper and lower jaws.
A conventional toy having an upper jaw and a lower jaw is typically shown in igs. 1 and 2 to include a head member 1 having an upper jaw 2 and a lower jaw 3 pivotally connected together by a connecting pin sleeving thereon a spring having two ends thereof respectively urged against jaws 2, 3 thus enabled to tend to pivot away from each other, a hollow connector fixed to lower jaw 3, an actuating mechanism 5, and a connecting wire 9. Actuating mechanism 5 includes a securing piece 5a fixed to hollow connector 4, and an oscillatable actuating member 5b pivotally connected to securing piece 5a and having an indentation 5c. Wire 9 passes through hollow connector 4 and has an end fastened to indentation Sc and an opposite and fixed to a lug 10 in upper jaw 2.If actuating member 5b is not applied with a foreign force, spring will pivot jaws 2, 3 away from each other and if member Sb is counterclockwise pivoted, wire 9 is downwardly pulled which in turn downwardly pivot upper jaw 2 to match against lower jaw 3. Such toy suffers from the following disadvantages: 1) After being played for a certain period of time, pin and spring often detach themselves from head member 1 and thus are dangerous for a baby or a child.
2) Upper and lower jaws 2, 3 are pivoted together by pin and spring and thus construction of head member 1 is relatively complicated.
It is therefore attempted by the Applicant to deal with such disadvantages above described.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a toy having upper and lower jaws which is relatively cheaper and safer.
It is further an object of the present invention to provide a jaws-provided toy having a relatively simpler structure.
According to the present invention, a toy includes a head member having pivotally connected upper and lower jaws, a hollow connector secured to the head member, an actuating member pivotally fixed to the hollow connector, and a connecting element passing through the hollow connector and having two ends thereof respectively connected to the actuating member and the upper jaw wherein the improvement is that the head member is integrally moulded from an elastic material in the manner that the upper and lower jaws always tend to pivot away from each other.
Certainly, the upper and lower jaws can form therebetween a connecting portion which can always tend to be straight.
The present invention may best be understood through the following description with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a schematical view showing a toy having upper and lower jaws in an open mouth state according to the prior art; Fig. 2 is a schematical view showing a toy in Fig. 1 in a closed mouth state; Figs. 3A and 3B are respectively a side view and a bottom view showing a free head member of a toy having upper and lower jaws according to the present invention; Fig. 4 is a schematic partial view showing a toy in Fig. 3A or 3B in an open mouth state; and Fig. 5 is a schematic partial view showing a toy in Fig. 3A or 3B in a closed mouth state.
Referring now to Figs. 3A-5, a toy according to the present invention includes a head member 11 having an upper jaw 12 and a lower jaw 13, a hollow connector 14 secured to a hole 17 on lower jaw 13, an oscillatable actuating member (not shown) connected to a securing piece (not shown) fixed to hollow connector 14, and a connecting wire 19 passing through hollow connector 14 and having a first end connected to the actuating member and a second opposite end fixed to a lug 16 in upper jaw 12.Head member 11 is integrally moulded from an elastically plastic material in the manner that a free head member 11 includes upper and lower jaws 12 and 13 and a connecting portion 18 which always tends to be straight, as shown in Fig. 3A or 3B, which means that upper and lower jaws 12 and 13 always tend to pivot away from each other if assembled as a part of a toy, as shown in Fig. 4 or 5.
Fig. 5 shows that the actuating member (not shown) downwardly pulls wire 9 in turn downwardly urging upper jaw 12 to match against lower jaw 13.
Fig. 4 shows that after the actuating member is released, connecting portion 18 pivots upper and lower jaws 12 and 13 away from each other.
Connecting element 19 needs not be a wire, e.g. a nylon one but can be a rod-like member. Hollow connector 14 can be a tube or any suitable member matchable with head member 11 and the toy.
Head member 11 is made of elastically plastic material and certainly can alternatively be made of elastic rubber material. Also, connecting portion 18 needs not always tend to be fully straight and can only tend to pivot upper and lower jaws 12, 13 away from each other to allow them to include a suitable angle.

Claims (4)

1. A toy comprising a head member having an upper jaw and a lower jaw pivotally connected to said upper jaw, a hollow connector secured to said head member, an actuating member pivotally connected to a securing piece fixed to said hollow connector, and a connecting element passing through said hollow connector and having a first end connected to said actuating member and a second opposite end fixed to said upper jaw, characterized in that said head member is integrally moulded from an elastic material in a manner that said upper and lower jaws always tend to pivot away from each other.
2. A toy as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that said upper and lower jaws form therebetween a connecting portion.
3. A toy as claimed in claim 2, characterized in that said connecting portion always tends to be straight.
4. A toy substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in Figs. 3 to 5 of the accompanying drawings.
