Abstract

A cleaning device, in particular a motor car cleaning device, comprises a basic body 1 of solid material with a water connection 3 and fitted to the body 1 a resilient water-pervious body 7, preferably a sponge, including a water-pervious enveloping means 8 of artificial fur, synthetic leather, leather or the like, during at least part of the use of which washing water flows therethrough. <IMAGE>

Description

MOTOR VEHICLE CLEANING APPARATUS The invention relates to a cleaning apparatus, in particular motor car washing apparatus comprising a basic body of solid material, e.g. hard plastics, preferably combined with a handle, and at least one cleaning device fitted in optional manner to the basic body, preferably a water-pervious-shaped body in one piece of resilient material, e.g. a sponge, to which passes a liquid duct from a connecting member connected to the basic body, a water-pervious enveloping means for the shaped body being provided, which during use is permeated by a flow of washing water at least temporarily from within towards the exterior.
For the cleaning of essentially smooth surfaces, cleaning apparatus as defined in the opening paragraph has been known for a long time. Apparatus for the aforesaid type may be found for example in US-PS 2 779 962 or in US-PS 2 94 102.
The use of sponges of which the entire surface is covered by a fleece of artificial fur is also known, although in that case for thorough and careful cleaning a frequent squeezing out and changing of water is necessary. Moreover, such sponges are not suitable for treating tough crusts of dirt.
The object of the invention is the provision of a cleaning apparatus by means of which a thorough and surface protective cleaning combined with maximum user friendliness can be ensured.
For that purpose the invention provides that the enveloping means takes the form of an artificial fur, synthetic leather, leather or the like.
In the course of the following description and with reference to the drawing, the invention is to be elucidated in more detail.
The drawing shows a longitudinal section of an example of an embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention.
The holding means for the components actually responsible for the cleaning action is provided by a basic body 1 of solid material, preferably made of plastics.
As shown in the drawing, this may comprise a handle 2 which in the preferred embodiment also includes the connecting member 3 for a hosepipe. A mounting plate 4 for the components affecting the cleaning is fitted to the basic body, either permanently or preferably removably, and in the latter case a coupling means 5, 5' of optional design may be provided and optionally a water connecting nipple 6, sealed in relation to the major part of the basic body. The mounting plate fitted in optional manner interchangeably or as a permanent fixture carries a cleaning member 7 such as e.g. a brush or a sponge. Advantageously, a water pervious shaped body in one piece of resilient material, e.g. a sponge or foam rubber is used.Around this formed body enveloping means 8 which in turn may in an advantageous manner be designed to be interchangeable is fitted by optional fixing means such as e.g. hooks and eyelets, screws and the like, rivets, by means of a rubber strap or corresponding tie strings or by adhesive action. In the case of sensitive surfaces, for example lacquered sheet metal of motor vehicles, soft materials, preferably artificial furs or the like, are employed as the enveloping means.
An enveloping means of leather, synthetic leather or similar material which preferably is provided with perforations over the entire surface, can also be used. Such means afford the additional advantage that the surface after the washing step may be rubbed dry, i.e. "shammny rubbed" using the same apparatus.
In use the apparatus and thus the shaped body 7 and the enveloping means 8 are at least temporarily subjected to a flow therethrough of clean water, optionally with an addition of cleaning or surface treatment agents, whereby a rinsing away of the dirt mechanically released by the enveloping means is attained with a substantial avoidance of such dirt becoming stuck in the enveloping means or the shaped body, and moreover such that the user is kept out of contact with the washing water, respectively the dirt.
The various aforesaid modifications also permit the rapid replacement of the envelopment means, respectively the shaped body in order to adapt these to the surface to be cleaned as well as for permitting convenient cleaning, drying and storage of the apparatus itself subsequent to its use for cleaning.
