Abstract

A strategic board game, comprising a number of playing positions, overlapping each other in small groups, the groups each being within one of a number of areas 1 to 5. The positions each relate to one of the areas. The object of the game is to be the first player to dispose of all ten playing pieces, by placing them onto the playing positions. Each player may influence the areas in which his opponent can play, thereby forcing his opponent to repossess his playing pieces. As shown, each area 1 to 5 has several positions somewhat on the lines shown for area 5. Each player in turn places a shaped playing piece in a correspondingly shaped position in a chosen area. The next player must then place a playing piece in the area as indicated by the shape of the playing piece used by the previous player. Overlapping of playing pieces is not allowed. <IMAGE>

Description

STRATEGIC BOARD GNME This invention relates to a strategic board game.
A strategic board game is a game which, by a combination of board design, and tactical play, enables a competition where the outcome is influenced by the skill of the players.
Strategic board games are normally designed such that either an element of luck or a static playing area is involved. This invention provides a board game where the design allows the players to influence the number of playable positions and where the element of luck is virtually eliminated.
specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
FIGURE 1 shows the playing board, and the shaped areas marked 1, 2! 3, 4, 5. The detail within each of these shapes is shown in figures 2 to 6. The detail shown in the circular area (marked 5) is a representation only, the real detail being shown in figure 6.
FIGURE 2 shows the detail of the area marked 1 in figure 1. The area contains 2 groupings, one of 4 and one of 5 potential plaving positions. In each cf the groupings the playing positions are overlapped, such that the playing of one position would exclude the availability of the position(s) it overlaps.
FIGURE 3 shows the detail of the area marked 2 in figure 1. The area contains 3 groupings of playing positions. Naain, the positions overlap so as to varv the number of available Positions.
FIGURE 4 shows the detail of the area marked 3 in figure 1. The area contains 2 groupings of playing positions.
FIGURE 5 shows the detail of the area marked 4 in figure 1, and contains 2 groupings of playing positions.
FIGURE 6 shows the detail of the area marked 5 in figure l,and contains 2 groupings of playing positions.
The rules of the game are as follows: THE BORRD The Board is divided into five large shapes known as zones: two triangular, one square, one diamond and one circular.
Within each of these zones are a number of small shapes known as positions. Each position overlaps at least one other in the same zone.
THE PLAY Each player starts with ten counters. The first player places one counter over any position in any zone. The shape of the position played by the first player determines the zone which his opponent muse play in next.
Play continues with each player in turn placing a counter in the zone indicated by his opponent's previous play.
The winner is the first player to dispose of all his counters.
THE RULES R position may not be played if it is already covered or partly covered.
If a player is unable to play in the correct zone he must pick up all the counters in that zone. He may then play any vacant position in any zone.
player may at any time elect to pick up all the counters in the zone in which he is to play provided that the counters in that zone number two or more. He may then play any vacant position in any zone.
A player who is required to play a triangular area may play in either of the two.
player who is forced or who elects to pick up the counters in a triangular area may choose either of the two.
All counters should be visible at all times.
EXRMPLE OF PLAY Player one covers a triangular position in the square area. Player two must now cover any position in one of the triangular areas. Let us say he covers a circular position. Player one must therefore cover any position in the circular area.
The playing pieces are circular, and designed to completely cover any playing position, and thereby cover the portions of the overlapping positions. In this way indicating that the overlapped positions cannot then be played.
The number of available positions in each area, and the quantity and shape of the positons, and the way in which the positions overlap have been determined in such a way as to make the game one of skill and not chance, and to permit the game to be played at a number of different levels of ability and age without compromising its strategic qualities.
