Abstract

A spirit level has a guide channel 13 within which two or more marker pointers 12 are located. The marker pointers are releasably secured into the channel by way of collars 14 so they may be positioned according to a chosen distance by means of measurement scales 15. Fixed or rotational vials 11 are positioned on the level body 10 to determine that the marker pointers 12 are level. Hand grabs or other similar means are positioned in the body to enable pressure of the hand or similar means to be applied to the marker pointers 12 to create indentation marks for the purposes of drilling holes for an appropriate fixing device. <IMAGE>

Description

DISTANCE MARKING SPIRIT IEVEL MEASURE This invention relates to a distance marking spirit level measure.
Spirit levels are widely used devices. Varying in length with one or or more fixed or rotational vials their purpose is to check zither a surface or line is horizontal, vertical or at a specified angle. They are not used for the purpose of creating indentations exactly level at a specified distance apart.
According to the present invention there is provided a distance marking spirit level measure comprising of a spirit level of varying lengths incorporating one or more fixed or rotational vials. Along one edge of the level is a channel within which two or more marker pointers are situated which may be moved along the channel by hand according to a metric and imperial measuring scale and tightened to affix the pointers to the chosen position against the measured scale indicated by a flange collar beneath the marker pointers.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows in perspective a cross section of the level with two marker pointers, one end cover having been removed.
Figure 2 shows the guide channel, measuring scale and marker pointers viewed from above.
Figure 3 illustrates the level marker pointers and channel in cross section.
Referring to the drawings the level comprises a body 10 fixed or rotational vials 11 together with two or more marker pointers 12 which are allowed to slide freely within the channel 13 when the collars 14 are released. When positioned against the measured scale 15 indicated by the collar flange 18 tightening of the collar 14 will affix the marker pointers 12 into the channel at the chosen positions the required distance apart.
Ghe marker pointers 12 having been thightened into the channel 13
at the chosen measuredsapart as indicated on the scale 15 may be offered up to the work surface and levelled according to the vial(s) positioned along the length of the level. Hand pressure is applied to the level body through hand grabs or similar means in the level body which will create indentations into the chosen surface by means of the marker pointer tips 12 the chosen distance apart.
The marker pointers 12 may be removed from their channel by releasing the end covers 20 secured to the level body by the appropriate means.
The flat surface of the level 21 may be used as for a normal spirit level.

Claims (6)
