Description
1 A TRACTOR CAB WITH A REVERSIBLE DRIVING POSITION The present invention
relates to tractor cabs with a reversible driving position, that is, a position arranged for the tractor to be driven both forwards and backwards, with a seat which can be rotated between the two driving positions.
In particular, the invention concerns a cab having a reversible driving position and including a cab structure with a roof and a sub-roof panel whose front end region faces the forward driving position of the tractor and extends downwardly to define, with the roof, a compartment for housing an air-conditioning unit for the cab, and in which the compartment is delimited at the rear by a part of the sub-roof panel which carries outlet vents for the air from the airconditioning.
Normally, the air-conditioning unit housed in the com.partment defined between the roof and the front end region of the sub-roof has a bulk which reduces the headroom vital for the driver, particularly when he is in the reverse driving position of the tractor. This presents considerable safety problems since, if- the tractor turns over when travelling backwards, the driver's head is easily exposed to risks of impact and consequent injury.
The object of the present invention is to avoid the above problem and to produce a tractor cab with a reversible driving position of the type defined at the beginning, which is adapted to ensure a greater degree C of safety for the driver in the event of overturning in the reverse position.
2 According to the invention, this object is achieved by virtue of the fact that the part of the sub-roof panel defining the back of the compartment for the air-conditioning unit is formed with a central portion which is recessed towards the front end of the sub-roof and with two inclined side portions which diverge from the recessed portion and have outlet vents with respective electric fans situated in correspondence therewith.
In practice, the rear part of the sub-roof panel defines a recess above the driver's head when he is in the reverse position, which ensures greater protection against the risk of injury in the event of the tractor turning over.
The invention will now be described in detail with reference to the appended drawings, provided purely by way of non-limiting example, in which:
Figure 1 is a schematic view of a tractor cab according to the invention, in partial longitudinal section, and Figure 2 is a section taken on the line II-II of Figure With reference to the drawings, the cab of agricultural tractor is generally indicated 1 and has a reversible driving position 2 comprising a front driving unit, generally indicated 3, for driving the tractor forwards, a rear driving unit, generally indicated 4, for driving the tractor backwards, a steering wheel 5 which can be moved from one of the two driving units 3, 4 to the other, and a seat 6 for the driver D which can i 1 1 1.
1 3 be rotated between the two units 3 and 4. As well as being rotatable through 180 0 between the two units 3, 4, the seat 6 can also be moved vertically (in a manner which is not described for brevity) between a lowered position for driving forwards and a raised position for driving backwards. The configuration illustrated in Figure 1 corresponds to the raised condition for driving backwards.
The cab 1 has a generally conventional structure with a front wall 7, a rear wall 8, two side walls, and a roof 9. Beneath the roof 9 is a subroof panel 10 whose front end region (that is, the one adjacent the front wall 7 of the cab 1) extends downwardly to define, with the corresponding portion of the roof 9, a compartment 11 which houses an heating, conditioning) indicated 12.
air-conditioning (ventilation, unit for the cab, generally As can clearly be seen in Figure 2, the part 10a of the sub-roof panel 10 defining the back (that is, the part opposite the front wall 7 of the cab 1) of the compartment 11 is formed with a central portion 13 which is recessed towards the front wall 7, and with two inclined side portions 14 which diverge from the central portion 13 and in correspondence with which are fitted outlet vents 15 for the air from the air-conditioning, with respective electric fans, schematically indicated 16. The conformation of the part 10a of the sub-roof panel 10 therefore defines a recess which, in the reverse driving position shown in Figure 1, ensures the necessary vital space above the head of the driver D.
Naturally, the scope of the present invention extends 4 to models which achieve equal utility by means of the same innovative concept 1 i i i I
Claims (2)
1. A tractor cab with a reversible driving position, including a cab structure with a roof and a sub-roof panel whose front region faces the direction of forward travel of the tractor and extends downwardly to define, with the roof, a compartment for housing an air-conditioning unit for the cab, and in which the compartment is delimited at the rear by a part of the sub-roof panel which carries outlet vents for the air from the air-conditioning, characterised in that the said part of the sub-roof panel is formed with a central portion which is recessed towards the front end of the sub-roof and with two inclined side portions which diverge from the recessed portion and have outlet vents with respective electric fans situated in correspondence therewith.
2. A cab substantially as described and illustrated and for the purposes specified.
