Abstract
A warning device for a drip bottle used for intravenous injection comprises a photoelectric level sensor 40 connected electrically by means of a flexible bus cable to an alarm. The photoelectric sensor is attached by adhesive to the outer lower end of the bottle and comprises an infra-red source and sensor in separate compartments, the amount of light reflected to the sensor depending on the presence or absence of liquid. <IMAGE>
Description
A WARNING DEVICE FOR DRIPPING BOTTLE IN
INTRAVENOUS INJECTION
This invention relates to a warning device for dripping bottle in intravenous injection, particularly, this invention relates to a device which can send out a warning signal to remind the person attend to the dripping bottle.
Regarding the warning devices for the dripping bottle in intravenous injection in the prior art, there are Spani's "Empty Container Detectar" Patent No.4,665,391; Jinotti's "Fluid-dispensing Apparatus Having Level Control and Alarm Means" Patent No.4,014,010; Deltour's "Drop
Monitor", etc.. Among the aforesaid inventious, Spani's and Jinotti's inventious are used to detect the fluid level scales by means of photoelectric transducers being installed across a fluid container; one of the photoelectric transducer is associated with the fluid container above the fluid level in the container to establish a reference signal corresponding to the condition wherein the hight path is not refracted or attenuated by the presence of a fluid.Electrical means are provided to connect the first photoelectric transducer to the second photoelectric transduser to linearize and normolize the reference signal with a contral signal generated by another photoelectric transducer. A comparator is associated with the photoelectric transducer, and connected to an alarm, which indicates when the contral signal is substantially equivalent to the reference signal, and thus indicating the lowering of the fluid level below the hight path of the first photoelectric transducer; however, the aforesaid inventions are quite different from the present invention. For instance, the photoelectric sensor of the present invention is attached to the lower outside of the dripping bottle. The alarm would not send out a sound signal until the fluid in the dripping bottle almost being used up.
In Deltour's invention (U.S. Pat. 3,563,090), the structure and design of the "Drop Monitor" is similar to Spani's invention. The light source and the photoresistive cell are installed at one side of the drop observation tube 24 instead of being installed on a same level. On the opposite side of the light source and the photo-resistive cell, there installs a mirror so as to let a light pass through a medium surface, and then the light is reflected back to the photo-resistive cell.
This invention provides a warning device for dripping bottle in intravenous injection, of which the features are that a photoelectric transmitter can send out an infrared, and the infrared can, after passing and being refracted through different media, generate different signals, whereby the level of a medical fluid can be detected. When a medical fluid in a dripping bottle lowers to a given level, a photoelectric sensor will generate a signal to cause an alarm to send out warning signal to remind a person, who should attend the injection set of a dripping bottle.
An embodiment of this invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is block diagram of the present invention.
Fig. 3 illustrates the operation made of the photoelectric sensor according to the present invention.
Fig. 4 illustrates the operation of the photoelectric sensor according to the present invention.
As shown in Fig. 1, there shows the dripping bottle unit for intravenous injection and the warning device according to the present invention. The dripping bottle 10 is used for containing salt water or tonic fluid. The top of the dripping bottle 10 has a hook 11 for hanging the dripping bottle on a hook frame 20 to administer the dripping fluid. The bottom (the mouth part) of the dripping bottle 10 is connected with a buffer tube 12, which is further connected with a connecting tube 13; the tube 13 is then connected with an injection needle. The warning device according to the present invention comprises an electronic control unit 30 and a pnotoelectric sensor 40 being adhered to the dripping bottle 10.
Fig. 3 illustrates the photoelectric sensor 40, which is divided, with a partition board 41, into a signal transmission area 42 and a signal reception area 43. The signal transmission area 42 further includes a photoelectric transmitter 44 to transmit infrared. The signal reception area 43 has a photoelectric receptor 45.
After the focal length of the photoelectric transmitter 44 being adjusted properly, the transmitter 44 will transmit an infrared signal to a reflecting mirror 50, which will reflect the infrared signal to the photoelectric receptor 45. In the embodiment of the present invention as shown in Fig. 4, the dripping bottle 10 is used to replace the reflecting mirror 50.A light would have different reflective index upon passing through different medium; by the same taken, the infrared according to the present invention would have different reflective index upon passing through the air 60 and the medical fluid 70 in the dripping bottle 10; as a result, the infrared after being reflected and received would cause the photoelectric receptor 45 to generator different signals, and therefore the different signals will be used to indicate and measure the level height of the mecical fluid in the dripping bottle 10. That signal generated can be used to trigger the electronic control unit 30 and the alarm 31 so as to warn and remind the nurse personnel to watch the operation of dripping bottle.
As shown in Figs 2 and 4, there shows the photoelectric sensor 40 being attached, with an adhesive 46, to a suitable position on the outside of the dripping bottle 10, i.e.. the position to facilitate the medical fluid level in the dripping bottle 10 to be watched by nurse personnel. Whenever the medical fluid 0 loweres below the sensing level A, the photoelectric sensor 40 will send out an infrared signal to pass through the air 60 and the medical fluid 70 and to be reflected into the photoelectric receptor 45, which will trigger the electronic control unit 30 to provide a signal output 47, which will be coupled to a signal comparator 48; the output of the comparator 48 will have the circuit become conducting so as to cause the alarm 31 to send out a warning signal to remind the nurse personnel that an attention to the dripping bottle is necessary.
Another feature of the present invention is that a flexible bus cable 80 is connected between the photoelectric sensor 40 and the electric control unit 0.
Since that bus cable 80 is flexible and bendable, it can still connect the aforesaid sensor 40 and unit 30 properly no matter the dripping bottle being placed at any position.
According to the aforesaid description, the warning device of the dripping bottle of the present invention mainly comprises a pnotoelectric sensor, an electronic control unit and an alarm. Whenever the medical fluid in the dripping bottle lowers below the sensing level
A on the dripping bottle, the photoelectric sensor will generate a signal to trigger the alarm. The present invention is deemed a simple, novel and practical device.
