Abstract

A beam or girder for a building frame comprises two elongate Z-section members joined to form a compound member of generally T-shaped overall section. Such a compound member may be used as a purlin and/or a rafter, especially in the apex region of the building roof. It may also be used as an upright in such situations. <IMAGE>

Description

BUILDING SUPPORTS The invention relates to a new type of building support which may be used as, for example, an upright of a roof rafter for a building frame.
The support is shown, by way of example only, in the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an end on view of the support which basically comprises two elongate Z sectioned members joined together to form a compound member. The Z sectioned members may be of the kind which are conventionally used as purlins.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 respectively show a building having the support in plan, from the end and from one side.
Figure 5 is a side view of the support, when used as a rafter, at the point at which the support meets a conventional upright.
Figure 6 is an end view of the support and upright shown in Figure 5, Figure 7 shows the support, when used as a rafter, at the point at which the support is connected to a purlin.
Figure 8 shows the region of the apex of a building roof at which two supports, when used as roof rafters, meet.
Figures 9 and 10 correspond to the view shown in figures 5 and 6, but also show uprights formed as the supports.
In the drawings, the support is referenced compound member.

Claims (3)

CLAIMS:
1. A building frame support member comprising two elongate Z-section members joined to form a compound member of generally T-shaped overall section.
2. A building frame support member according to Claim 1 and having a section substantially as described herein with reference to, and as illustrated in, any appropriate combination of the accompanying drawings.
3. A building frame incorporating a member in accordance with Claim 1 or Claim 2.
