Abstract
A collapsible holder comprising a plurality of panels 2 which are joined together to provide an entry 4 and a closed end 5, there being crease lines 6, 7 whereby the cross-sectional shape of the holder 1 can be altered from a collapsed mode as shown to an in use mode corresponding with the outer configuration of an article, e.g. a drink container, to be supported in the holder 1. The panels 2 are made of flexible plastic sheet material which are substantially parallel in the collapsed mode and in which the crease-lines 6 and 7 are defined by linear arrays of spaced-apart press-stud releasable fastening means 8 and 9 one of which is integral with a suspension means in the form of a hook-like member 10. <IMAGE>
Description
A HOLDER
The invention relates to a holder.
It is often necessary to support or hold a container such as that holding a drink in a location where there is no shelf or similar support on which the container can be placed when not in use. This is particularly applicable in the interior of automobiles. Various proposals have been made to overcome this problem, one of which is a tray which is secured to a door ledge, but such a tray is heavy and cumbersome and in use has the added disadvantage that it can be knocked or "jogged" resulting in the spilling of drinks supported by it, so compounding the problem it seeks to avoid.
It is accordingly an object of the invention to seek to mitigate these disadvantages.
According to the invention there is provided a collapsible holder, comprising a plurality of panels which are joined together to provide an entry and a closed end, there being crease lines whereby the crosssectional shape of the holder can be altered from a collapsed mode to an in use mode corresponding with the outer configuration of an article to be supported in the holder.
The panels may be substantially parallel in the collapsed mode and may comprise a flexible material such as plastic. This provides for ease of use.
The crease lines may be provided by a plurality of spaced apart push-stud releasable fastening means arranged in linear arrays about which the panels may flex when moving between the two modes. This provides a relatively simple construction.
The holder may include means to suspend the holder from a support, for example, the suspension means may comprise a hook-like member. The hook-like member may be secured to, as by being integral with, one of the push-stud releasable fastening means.
This construction provides for a compact holder which may readily be manually engaged or disengaged with say a frame of a car window so that the holder may unobtrusively support a container of say a drink without spillage.
A collapsible holder embodying the invention is hereinafter described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a schematic side elevation of the holder.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a collapsible holder comprising a plurality of panels 2 and 3 which are joined together to provide an entry 4 and a closed end 5, there being crease lines 6,7 whereby the crosssectional shape of the holder 1 can be altered from a collapsed mode as shown to an in use mode corresponding with the outer configuration of an article to be supported in the holder 1.
The panels 2 are made of flexible plastic sheet material which are substantially parallel in the collapsed mode and in which the crease-lines 6 and 7 are defined by linear arrays of spaced-apart press-stud releasable fastening means 8 and 9 one of which is integral with a suspension means in the for of a hook-like member 10.
The holder 1 may be used to hold and support a container such as a cylindrical container of Cola or a rectangular container of say Squash. The holder 1 conforms to the external configuration of either container by flexing about the crease lines 6,7 to the required shape, which is maintained by the weight of the container and the tension created thereby when the free end of the hook member 10 is hooked over an edge 11 of a window frame 12 say a car interior. In this way the container can be supported readily without spilling the contents.
The holder 1 thus acts as a tidy' in keeping the interior of the car free of loose articles such as the
Cola container referred to above. If the holder 1 is empty, it reverts to its collapsed mode and is unobtrusive and neat if it is maintained hooked over the window ledge, or it can be removed therefrom and stored.
Claims (10)
1. A collapsible holder, comprising a plurality of panels which are joined together to provide an entry and a closed end, there being crease lines whereby the cross-sectional shape of the holder can be altered from a collapsed mode to an in use mode corresponding with the outer configuration of an article to be supported in the holder.
2. A holder according to Claim 1, the panels being substantially parallel in the collapsed mode.
3. A holder accbrding to Claim 1 or Claim 2, the panels comprising flexible material.
4. A holder according to Claim 3, the material being plastic.
5. A holder according to Claim 4, the crease lines being provided by a plurality of spaced apart push-stud releasable fastening means arranged in linear arrays about which the panels flex when moving between the two modes.
6. A holder according to Claim 5, including means to suspend the holder from a support.
7. A holder according to Claim 5, the suspension means comprising a hook-like member.
8. A holder according to Claim 7, the hook-like member being secured to one of the push-stud releasable fastening means.
9. A holder according to Claim 8, the one push-stud releasable fastening means and the hook-like member being integral.
10. A collapsible holder, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
