Abstract

A multicomponent dietary supplement contains a plurality of different dietary amino acids in a capsule form. The individual ratios of the amino acids are chosen at least substantially to mimic the ratios of those amino acids or corresponding amino acids in natural high growth-promoting systems, such as whole egg or human milk.

Description

DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS This invention relates to dietary supplements, particularly for bodybuilding and like purposes.
A very wide variety of dietary supplements is available to improve sporting performance. While certain agents having physiological effects are often proscribed, particularly in the case of international sport, many dietary - supplements are legitimately available and widely consumed. In particular, mineral, vitamin and amino acid supplements are available in a variety of forms. There is variety not only in dosage form (capsule, pill, sachet and the like) but also in the number of components simultaneously administrable.
It is believed that enhanced results for bodybuilding may be achieved by choosing the appropriate combination of dietary supplements, but with the substantial number of supplements available, the different dosage forms and the different quantities of active ingredients in those dosage forms, it becomes very much a hit and miss affair for the consumer to choose an appropriate regime.
We have now found that multicomponent dosage forms may be provided which are highly effective in bodybuilding if they are selected according to certain criteria.
According generally to the present invention there is provided a multicomponent dietary supplement containing a plurality of different dietary amino acids in a capsule form wherein the individual ratios of the amino acids are chosen at least substantially to mimic the ratios of those amino acids or corresponding amino acids in natural high.
growth-promoting systems.
A wide variety of natural systems may be taken as a pattern in order to produce effective formulations in accordance with the present invention. Typical and preferred such systems are whole egg spectrum and human milk spectrum.
The capsules may be chosen of appropriate size and material to suit the filling. Standard gelatine capsules of size Qo (120 mg weight) or 000 are suitable for man applications. If appropriate, known additives to assist in preservation or e.g. flow control of the powder filling, may be included The following Examples will serve to illustrate the invention: Example 1 Standard gelatine capsules having a shell weight of 120 milligrams are filled with a mixture of amino acids in pure free flowing crystalline form. The mixture is chosen in accordance with the present invention to provide a wide range of amino acids. The formulation is made to a protein efficiency ratio which substantially matches that of a chicken's egg.The specific formulation provides per capsule the following weights of the individual ingredients: Component Weight in Milligrams Glutamic acid 84 Aspartic acid 75 Leuc ine 58 Serine 55 Vat ine 53 Lycine hydrochloride 44 Arginine 43 Isoleucine 39 Alanine 38 Threonine 35 Phenylalanine 35 Magnesium gluconate 30 Pyridoxine 30 Calcium D-pantothenate 30 Tyrosine 28 Proline 27 Methionine 23 Glycine 21 Histidine 17 Tryptophan 13 Cystine 13 Potassium gluconate 10 Example 2 The capsules of Example 1 are combined in packs for bodybuilding with other capsules containing B vitamins, combined vitamins and minerals, smilax and a mixture of sterols. The sterol mixture is particularly known to promote anabolism in the consumer.
The capsules according to Example 1 are provided in an appropriate ratio to the other capsules, for example for each sixty three capsules of the type indicated in Example 1, there may be eighty four capsules of smilax, forty tw of mixed sterols, seven capsules of B vitamins and seven capsules of vitamin and mineral supplements.
These capsules are preferably packaged in sachets each containing a day's recommended dosage. For example, an appropriate regimen may be one B vitamin capsule and three capsules according to Example 1 for breakfast, one multivitamin and mineral capsule, three mixed sterol capsules, six smilax capsules and three capsules according to Example 1 at lunch and the same for dinner but without the multiple vitamin and mineral capsule.
A convenient filling per 120 milligram capsule shell for the mixed sterol capsules is: Component Weight in Milligrams Betasistosterol 238 Smilax Officianalis 238 Chlorophyll 41 Kelp 34 Alfalfa 34 Saw Palamento 27 Dioschera 27 Dam iona 27 Zinc 14 Example 3 A gelatine capsule is manufactured in accordance with the invention containing a mixture of branched chain amino acids matching the respective weight distribution thereof substantially to that of a chicken's egg. Branched chain amino acids are stimulators of muscular repair and growth and e.g. five capsules in accordance with this Example may be taken immediately after exercise by bodybuilders.
The filling of each size 000 gelatine capsule is: L-Leucine 249 mg L-Valine 246 mg L-Isoleucine 178 rng
