Description

MAGNETICALLY OPERABLE SECURITY BOLT THIS INVENTION RELATES TO A MAGNETICALLY - OPERABLE SECURITY BOLT SECURITY BOLTS ARE COMMONLY USED MECHANISMS FOR LOCKING WINDOWS AND DOORS TO PREVENT BREAK-INS. THEY ARE USUALLY OPERATED BY MECHANICAL OR ELECTRO-MAGNETIC MEANS, INVOLVING XEYS OR SWITCHES, AND ARE COMPLEX AND EXPENSIVE.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION THERE IS PROVIDED A PERMANENT HAND-HELD MAGNET ACTING DIRECTLY ON A MAGNETIC BOLT, WHICHIS SIMPLE, UNOBTRUSIVE AND INEXPENSIVE.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING IN WHICH: FIGURE 1 SHOWS IN 1ST ANGLE ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION A CROSS-SECTION THROUGH THE BOLT IN POSITION IN A WINDOW FRAME WITH THE PERMANENT MAGNET ABOVE.
FIGURE 2 SHOWS IN PERSPECTIVE THE POSITIONS OF BOLTS IN CASEMENT, FEATURE AND SASH WINDOWS.
REFERRING TO FIGURE 1, THE SECURITY BOLT CONSISTS OF A RUST PROOFED FERROUS METAL BOLT WITH A SMOOTH SHANK, A HEAD OF LARGER DIAMETER TO PROVIDE A SHOULDER, AND A TAPERED POINT (1). THIS IS INSERTED IN A HOLE DRILLED THROUGH THE RAIL OF AN OPENING WINDOW CONCENTRIC WITH A HOLE IN THE SILL OR FRAME. THE HOLES ARE LINED WITH SLEAVES, COUNTERSUNK IN THE WINDOW SUCH THAT THE BOLT HEAD FITS FLUSH (2). TO REMOVE THE BOLT A PERMANENT MAGNET IS USED BY THE HOUSEHOLDER (3).

Claims (5)

Claims
1. A magnetically operable security bolt comprising a sliding metal bolt operating within a sleeve to lock or locate in a second sleeve or a catch plate and operated by a permanent magnet which is hand held or mechanically held to provide security or locking.
2. A magnetically operable security bolt as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a sliding metal bolt or pin is of ferrous metal but appropiately coated. it required, to prevent corrosion without inhibiting its magnetic properties.
3. A magnetically operable security bolt as claimed in Claim 2 wherein the bolt or pin slides in an appropiately positioned hcile or in a sleeve made from plastic or suitable material.
4 A magnetically operable security bolt as claimed in Clsims 2 and 5 wherein the bolt or pin slides within a security plate or second sleeve with its centre concentric to the principal sleeve and located in another part of the object or machine required to be held in a fixed position in relation to the first.
5. A magnetically operable security bolt as claimed in Claims 1- wherein the bolt or pin is moved by a permanent magnet held in the hand or a moving mechanical arm or holding device.
