Description

2219027 FRAME CONSTRUCKON OF THE PILLAR/TRANSOM TYPE This invention
relates to a frame construction of the pillar/transom type, particularly for frontages, roofs or the like.
Frame constructions of the type mentioned usually have vertical pillar sections, with perpendicularly extending transom sections. Howeverr frame constructions in which the transom sections extend at an inclination to the pillar sections are also frequently encountered. In these constructions (for example, according to DE-OS 3,427,511), it has hitherto been customary to match the anchoring grooves carrying the sealing strips according to the desired angle of inclination. However, such a design of frame construction has the disadvantage that additional machining of the pillar sections used is necessary to provide such a match.
The object of this invention is to provide a frame construction in which desired angles of inclination can be set in a simpler manner, even on pillar sections which are bent obliquely and/or transom sections extending at an inclined angle.
According to this invention, there is provided a frame construction of the pillar/transorn type, comprising pillar sections and transom sections extending transversely to the pillar sections, glass panes or the like secured to the pillar and transom sections, cover sections covering the pane edges on the outer side of the frame which cover sections are secured to the pillar sections or to the transom sections, the pillar sections, transom sections and cover sections each having anchoring grooves, said anchoring grooves locating sealing strips which are supported adjacent the pane edges, each sealing strip having a projecting member for location in a respective groove of the pillar sections and/or transom sections the sealing strips having approximately semicircularly concave surfaces which approximately mate with the arcuate opposed side walls of the associated anchoring grooves and are rotatably connected to the anchoring grooves in the manner of a roller joint.
With regard the term "roller joinC used herein, attention is drawn, for example to: Hutte - Des Ingenieurs Taschenbuch, Volune II A (Maschinenbau), 28th edition (1954), page 27U.
Because the sealing strips and the associated anchoring grooves are designed according to the invention, it is therefore possible to obtain a wide range of angles of inclination in a simple way, without the use of an additional device.
- 2 In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the anchoring grooves and the associated sealing strips of the cover sections are formed similarly to that of the anchoring grooves and sealing strips of the pillar sections and/or transom sections. This ensures that there is no 5 need to carry out bending of the cover sections.
The pivoting range of the sealing strips preferably amounts to + 45'. To obtain this pivoting range, the projecting member is symmetrically arranged in relation to the mid-plane of the sealing strip. If the pivoting range of the sealing strip is to be increased, it is recommended that the projecting member be asymmetrically arranged in relation to the mid-plane of the sealing strip. In this instance, it is also possible to insert the sealing strip into the anchoring groove in a position rotated through 1800.
The projecting strip preferably has a cross-section essentially the form of a quarter circle, so that it can follow the pivoting movement of the sealing strip unimpeded.
lhe invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1 shows diagrammatically a frontage consisting of pillar sections bent obliquely and transom sections inclined obliquely, Figure 2 shows a horizontal section along the line II-II of Figure 1 (outer corner), Figure 3 showns a horizontal section along the line III-III of Figure 1 (inner corner), Figure 4 shows a vertical section along the line W-W of Figure 1, Figure 5 shows the pivoting of a sealing strip in one direction on an enlarged scale, and Figure 6 shows the pivoting of the same sealing strip in the opposite direction.
In the figures like reference numerals denote like parts.
In the frontage according to Figure 1 (vertical) pillar sections 1 bent obliquely and (horizontal) transom sections 2 extending transversely thereto form a frame construction, the frame voids of which are filled with insulating-glass panes 3. On the outside of the building, as shown in Figures 2-4, the frame construction has cover sections 4, 5 which are screwed respectively to the pillar sections 1 and transom sections 2.
1^ As shown by the sections in Figures 2 to 4, the pillar sections 1 and transom sections 2 have anchoring grooves 6, 7 for inner sealing strips 8, 9 and the cover sections 4, 5 have anchoring grooves 10, 11 for outer sealing strips 12, 13 which are supported adjacent the pane edges.
A protecting member 8', 91, 121, 13' each of the sealing strips 8, 9, 12, 13 engages behind respective arcuately formed groove opposed side walls 61, 71, 101, ll' of the associated anchoring grooves 6, 7, 10, 11.
To allow for the desired angles of inclination of the pillar sections 1 and transom sections 2, all the sealing strips 8, 9, 12, 13 have approximately semicircularly concave surfaces which approximately mate with the arcuate groove opposed side walls 61, 71, 101, ll' of the associated anchoring grooves 6, 7, 10, 11 and are rotatably connected to the walls in the manner of a roller joint.
Pivoting ranges of + 450 can easily be obtained for the sealing strips 8, 9, 12, 13 by such an arrangement.
Figures 5 and 6 show, on an enlarged scale, the conditions for an (inner) seal 8 of an anchoring groove 6. In Figure 5, a pivoting range of up to + 450, starting from the normal position represented by dot-anddash lines, is obtained (see the arrow pointing to the right in Figure 5), the projecting member 8' being arranged asymmetrically in relation to the mid-plane of the sealing strip 8. To obtain a pivoting range of up to 450 according to Figure 6 (see the arrow pointing to the left), the sealing strip 8 must be rotated through 180' and then inserted into the anchoring groove 6 again. The projecting member 8' itself has a crosssection essentially the form a quarter circle.
