Abstract

A cantilever arm 10 with a connecting plate 11 used to hang merchandise or support a shelf, which can be held against a supporting post 12 and locked by a loose collar 13 fitted round the post 12 and over the connecting plate 13. <IMAGE>

Description

MERCHANDISE DISPLAY SYSTEM This invention relates to the joint between a Cantilever Arm and a Supporting post.
Cantilever Arms, when used to hang merchandise or support shelves need to be adjustable in height and direction, most systems have a series of holes or slots in the supporting post to accommodate arms at the required level and direction.
According to this invention, the arm has a connecting plate at one end and the post has a loose fitting collar which leaves a cavity between inside the collar and outside the post, the connecting plate is shaped to fit into this cavity.
Referring to the accompanying drawings in which: FIG 1 shows in perspective the arm 10 the connecting plate 11 the post 12 and the collar 13. These are the Four main components of this invention.
FIG 2 shows the arm joined onto the post. In this position the weight 15 of the arm produces an outward force 16 at the top of the connecting plate which is restrained by the collar and an inward force 17 at the bottom of the connecting plate which is restrained by the post. These Three forces lock the arm onto the post at the required level and direction.
FIG 3 shows the post fully encased with collars which fit loose and are notched 20 to accommodate the arm. The levels at which arms can be fitted is limited to the joints 21 between the collars1 but the asthetic quality of the system is improved. Any notches not used for arms can be plugged 22.
FIG 4 shows a plan of a joint between arm and round post using a round collar.
This joint accommodates one arm in any direction.
FIG 5 shows a plan of a joint between arm and square post using a round collar.
This joint accommodates up to Four arms at right angles to each other.
FIG 6 shows a plan of a joint between arm and round post using a square collar.
This joint accommodates up to Four arms at right angles to each other.
FIG 7 shows a plan of a joint between arm and rectangular post using rectangular collar. This joint accommodates Two arms in opposite directions.

Claims (3)

1 A joint between, a cantilever arm with a connecting plate at one end and a supporting post with a loose fitting collar arranged to cause the weight of the arm to produce forces to lock the joint.
2 A joint as Claim 1 on a post fully enclosed with loose collars enabling an arm to be joined to the post wherever an opening between collars can be made.
3 A joint as Claim 2 with collars notched to accommodate the arm, without exposing the post or the connecting plate.
