Abstract

A tape-measure has a body 1 which has a spindle 5 in the middle, to which a coil spring 4 is fixed, which is in turn fixed to two tape blades 2 and 3 (any measuring divisions eg. inches, metric, type setting sizes, etc). Both blades 2 and 3 are wound onto the spindle by the coil spring 5 and both are pulled out automatically to the same extent so that the body 1 indicates the centre point. <IMAGE>

Description

CENTER FINDING TAPE MEASURE This invention relates to a center finding tape-measure.
The tape-measure is well known as a metal or plastic container body for a rolled up measuring blade; fixed to a coil spring which in turn is fixed to a spindle, which enables the blade to be pulled out from an opening in the container body, and when finished with enabling the blade to spring back.
According to my present invention there are two blades. Both are fixed to coil spring which is in turn fixed to the spindle and are rolled up and will pull out through opposing openings in the container body. When one blade is pulled out in one direction the second blade - because it is on the same spindle - is wound out to exactly the same ammount in the opposite direction. Thus the middle of the tape body is the exact center of the two tape blades.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A device to find center of an item quickly and accurately.
  2. 2. A device for finding center as claimed in Claim 1. which can also from a center point - measure out equal distances either side of the body.
  3. 3. A devise to find center as claimed in Claims 1. and 2. which also measures accurately the interier of any enclosed area, such as an alcove or cupboard etc.
