Abstract

A swimfeeder, ie: an anglers bait container for attracting fish when filled with maggots, breadcrumbs or other bait and attached to line has a removable weight 17 so rate of sink and bottom holding powers can be altered to suit conditions encountered by the angler. The body of the container is tubular with an integral frusto conical end. The other end is sealed by means of a removable snug fitting cap 13 which is permanently attached by means of a hinge 14. The weight has dovetail conneclion with the body. The feeder can be attached to the line from the link stem 15 or by passing a line through the centrally positioned hole in the frusto conical domes at either end of the tube. <IMAGE>

Description

INTERCHANGEABLE WEIGHT FEEDER This invention relates to an Angler's Bait Container of a type which is used to feed bait into the swim of an angler and is hence commonly known as a "swimfeeder11.
Such a container has perforations through which bait of different kinds can pass into the area of a baited hook in order to attract fish to the area of the hook. The swimfeeder is weighted to ensure it sinks to the bottom of the water near to where the hook is located.
Most commonly used swimfeeders have an elongated shape and incorporate a semi-permanent weighting system which attach either lead or similar dense metal weights to the length of the container. These weights either being irremovable,or only removable by dismantling the container from the line, making it necessary to change the container when heavier weights are required on the feeder.
In the type of angling in which these containers are commonly used, which are limited time fishing contests varying from one to four hours, time is of great importance in the success of these contests.
Hence when an angler has to change the weight of his feeder, when conditions in the water change such as tide or current, or if he is fishing a different area of depth in the same area this is extremely costly in time when he has to replace his whole swimfeeder.
The object of this present invention is to provide an improved dispenser in which the externally mounted weight is removable in a matter of seconds and can be immediately replaced by another differing weight of the required size enabling angling to continue virtually uninterrupted.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig. 1 shows the side view of the feeder with a weight in place on the underside.
Fig. 2 shows the view from below with the weight removed.
Fig. 3 shows in perspective the weight removed from the container.
Fig. 4 shows the view from below with weight fitted.
Fig. 5 shows end view from end with opening cap.
Referring first to Fig. 1, the container comprises a circular section, elongated cylindrical casing 12 with an integral frusto-conical dome at one end formed from moulded transparent plastic material. An end dome 13 fits firmly into the other end and is manually removable to insert bait.
Removal is facilitated by two lugs located on each side to aid grip and loss of the cap is prevented by an integrally moulded hinge 14. The main casing 12 and closure 13 are both perforated to allow the escape of bait. Two small holes 11 are centrally located at each end to allow insertion of line if required for alternative attachment of line.
The normal means of attachment to line, however, is by a small lug 15 with a hole 19 for the insertion of line or a swivel. A weight 17 is attached to the base of the feeder.
Fig.2 illustrates the base of the feeder with the weight removed showing the integral male dovetail 16 on to which the weight slides and,due to the slow taper, becomes locked.
Fig. 3 illustrates the removed lead showing the female dovetail 20 which received the male dovetail 16. The two dovetails must correspond to each other in taper so when fitted together they form a tight fit so the lead is positioned in the correct position as shown in Fig. 4.
Fig. 5 shows the end-on view of the container with the opening cap. The diagram shows the central hole 11 through which the line can be passed and also the two lugs 18 for opening the cap.

Claims (6)

1. A bait dispenser having a tubular body with a means for securing an "easily" removable lead or other weight by means of a dovetail fitting.
