Abstract

A shoe heel protector comprises a tapered U-section member formed of a substantially rigid plastics material. The smaller end of the U-section member terminates in a socket portion 10 for receiving the tip of the heel. The portion 10 may be internally ribbed to make it an interference fit differing heel tips. A decorative finish e.g. flock coating may be provided. <IMAGE>

Description

SHOE HEEL PROTECTOR This invention relates to a heel protector for a lady's shoe.
A heel protector in accordance with the invention comprises a tapered U-section member formed of a substantially rigid plastics material having a socket therein for receiving the tip of a shoe heel.
The invention also resides in the combination of a shoe with a detachable heel protector as defined above.
The accompanying drawing shows two examples of the invention. Figure 1 is a part-sectional view showing a protector in position on a stiletto type heel, Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 and Figure 3 is a perspective view of a protector for a lower heel.
In both cases, the protector is formed from a substantially rigid plastics material for example by injection moulding. The protector is generally of tapering U-section configuration shaped to embrace a complementarily shaped heel. The protector terminates in a socket portion 10 arranged to receive the tip 11 of the heel.
The U-section part of the protector preferably has internal dimensions very slightly smaller than the complementary heel so that it is an interference fit thereon.
As shown in Figure 2 the socket portion 10 may have internal ribs lOa which form an interference fit on the shoe heel tip. In this way slightly differing heel tips may be accommodated by a common protector. Although the plastics material used is substantially rigid, it can yield sufficiently for this purpose.
The protector is preferably provided with a decorative finish, for example by flock-coating.
The protector guards against damage to the rear surface of the heel and the back of the shoe during driving and other activities without significantly changing the visual appearance of the shoe.

Claims (6)

1. A shoe heel protector comprising a tapered U-section member formed of a substantially rigid plastics material having a socket therein for receiving the tip of a shoe heel.
2. A heel protector as claimed in claim 1 in which the socket portion is formed with internal ribs.
3. A heel protector as claimed in any preceding claim having a decorative finish.
4. A heel protector as claimed in claim 4 in which said decorative finish consists of a flock coating.
5. The combination of a shoe with a detachable heel protector as claimed in any preceding claim.
6. A shoe protector substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawing.
