Abstract
The support means for display of panels such as estate agents boards is adapted to span a door or window aperture by contacting opposed confronting surfaces thereof comprises a cross-bar (2) having a surface contacting member (8) at one end and a flange (12) at the other. The flange extends in a plane normal to axis of the bar (2) and is provided with apertures (14) to receive threaded spigots (16) by which a plate member (18) is secured to the flange (12) to clamp the panel. The plate member (18) engages the surface on one side of the aperture and the angularly adjustable member (8) engages the opposed surface. As shown crossbar (2) has axial bore (4) to receive threaded rod (6) bearing member (8) which is rubber faced as is plate member (18). <IMAGE>
Description
DISPLAY MATERIAL SUPPORT MEANS
The invention is concerned with support means for display material, particularly but not exclusively, temporary support means for the support of boards or panels bearing informative data.
In situations in which it is desirable temporarily to display information upon the exterior of a building, for example a "for sale" or "to let" display board, it is not acceptable to attach the board by conventional fastening means to the building structure and, therefore, estate agents' boards are usually free-standing. In the case of a flat for sale, however, the board may be some distance from the flat itself.
The invention provides a support means for display material adapted to span a distance between two spaced apart but confronting surfaces comprising an extensible cross-bar or strut member having at one end thereof a member adapted to engage one of said surfaces and, at a second end thereof,,at least one flange extending in a plane normal to the axis of the bar or strut member, there being further provided a plate member adapted in use to contact a second of said surfaces, said plate being adapted to be secured to said flange(s) so as to clamp therebetween.
a board or display panel so as to extend in or parallel to said plane normal to the. axis of the bar or strut.
Advantageously, the support means may span a window or door aperture in a building and may engage wall surfaces of that aperture. Conveniently the cross-bar or strut member may include an externally threaded extension portion adjustably received in an axial bore of said member and a lock nut means. Alternatively, the cross-bar or strut member may be of a telescopic construction.
Preferably,~ the surface-contacting members are provided with rubber or plastic contact pads.
There will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the drawings a support means according to the invention. In the drawings:
Fig. 1 shows a support means; and
Fig. 2 shows said means in use with a display board.
The support means comprises a cross-bar 2 having an axial bore 4 into which is received an externally threaded rod 6 bearing a rubber-faced surface-contacting member 8. In the present example, the member 8 is provided with a socket into which is received a ball projection 25 formed on the end of the rod 6. The member 8 is thus capable of a degree of angular adjustment. A lock nut 10 secures the rod 6 in the desired extended position. A flange 12 at the opposite end of the bar 2 has two apertures 14 through which project threaded spigots 16 of a plate member 18 having a rubbercovered wall contacting surface 20. Wing-nuts 22 secure the flange 12 and the plate 18 together so as to clamp therebetween, a sign board indicated at 24 (Fig. 2), the spigots passing through the board.
The assembly is illustrated in Fig. 2 spanning a window aperture of a building 26.
Claims (8)
1. A support means for display material adapted to span a distance between two spaced apart but confronting surfaces comprising an extensible cross-bar or strut member having at one end thereof a member adapted to engage one of said surfaces and, at a second end thereof, at least one flange extending in a plane normal to the axis of the bar or strut member, there being further provided a plate member adapted in use to contact a second of said surfaces, said plate being adapted to be secured to said flange(s) so as to clamp therebetween a board or display panel so as to extend in or parallel to said plane normal to the axis of the bar or strut.
2. Support means as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cross-bar or strut member includes an externally threaded extension portion adjustably received in an axial bore of said cross-bar or member, together with lock nut means adapted to lock said cross-bar or member in a desired position.
3. Support means as claimed in claim 1, wherein the cross-bar or strut member is of a telescopic construction for adjustment of its overall length.
4. Support means as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the engagement member at said first mentioned end of the cross-bar or strut member is adapted for a degree of angular adjustment.
5. Support means as claimed in claim 4, wherein the angular adjustment is provided by a ball and socket arrangement.
6. Support means as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein the members adapted to contact the spaced-apart but confronting surfaces are provided with rubber or synthetic rubber contact pads.
7. Support means as claimed in any one of the preceding claims, wherein said plate member and said flange(s) are fastened together by bolt and nut assemblies to clamp a panel therebetween.
8. Support means for display material constructed and arranged substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to and as shown in the drawings.
