Abstract
To prevent bursting on freezing a metal water pipe contains an inner sealed plastics tube which is preferentially compressed by ice. The tube may be placed in the rising main adjacent the inlet to a cold water tank. <IMAGE>
Description
THE MAINS WATER PIPE FROST BURST DETERENrn SYSTEM
Mains water is still allowed to flow through the pipes at the usual rate and all plumbing will work as normal.
Regarding the size of the bore of the pipes shown if
Figs 1 & 2 on the diagram. These sizes may be altered to give the same volume of water to that of the standard sized peipe when no pipe is inside.
DISCRIPTIONS
Fig 1 Copper Tube (Grade Table X.)
Fig 2 Plastic Tube (Rigid plastic similar of that
installed by Breweries in Pub's ect.)
The plastic air tube wont compress under the pressure of the mains water.
This allowing the air to remain uncompressed. However it will compress under the force of the expanded ice.
Preventing the outer copper tube from bursting.
When thawed both pipes remain unafected.
A prota type has been made and put to a test the water in the pipe was frozen then allowed to thaw then re frozen then thawed several times.
No burst was evident.
Claims (2)
1. THE MAINS WATER PIPE FROST BURST DETERRENT SYSTEM,
comprising of a metal pipe (namely copper) and a
plastic pipe of a smaller bore, which is installed
inside the metal pipe. The ends of the plastic
pipe are sealed to make airtight. Water can now
flow inside the metal pipe, with air indirectly
inside it.
2. TXE BURINS WATER PIPE FROST BURST DETERRENT SYST1 as claimed in Claim (1); whereas if the water in
the metal pipe should freeze, impact from the
expanding ice will cushion against the plastic air
pipe and will not damage the metal water pipe.
Once the ice has thawed in the pipe the water supply
will function as normal and is automatically
prepared for future frosts without any maintenance.
