Abstract

A spring tensioner for a garage door spring 5 comprises a sleeve 3 which is attached at one end through a journal pin 4 to an arm 1, and at the other end through a screw-threaded connection to an eye bolt 6 which carries the spring 5. Rotation of the sleeve 3 thus causes adjustment of the degree of tension of the spring 5. <IMAGE>

Description

SPRING TENSIONER SYSTEM This invention relates to the tensioning of a garage door spring.
Garage door springs are usually awkward to tension. This invention provides a simpler to use, and more positive means of tensioning a spring.
Fig. 1 shows the tensioning arrangement fixed to a cantilevered fulcrum arm and spring.
The tensioner is fixed to the arms (1) via a pivoting trunnion (2) which in turn is fastened to the tensioner body (3) through a pivot pin (4).
At the lower end, the tensioner is fixed to the spring (5) by an eye bolt (6). The lower end of the spring is suitably fastened to the door frame.
By rotating the tensioner body (3) on its axis, either by hand or by using a lever inserted in the hole at the top of the body, the spring (5) is either tensioned or relieved by the action of the eye bolt (6) screwing itself in or out of the tensioner body (3).

Claims (2)

CLAIM
1. A spring tensioner system comprising pivoting body fixed at one end, to the fulcrum arm, and to the spring by means of an eye bolt at the other. The spring is tensioned or relieved by rotating the body of the tensioning unit, thus screwing the eye bolt, either in, or out, of the body.
2. A spring tensioner system as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the tensioner is applied to a garage door spring to give a simpler to use and more positive means of tensioning.
