Abstract

A Board Game imitates the outdoor game by displaying a Course with Fairways, Greens and Hazards, in a natural setting of Woodlands, Rivers, Ponds and Pasture, the course bearing a multi-lane grid system. Dice with a predetermined yardage range printed on each of the Six Sides of the dice, plus other dice, with lane indicators are used together to plot the outcome of any shot. A putting dice is also provided. <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION BOARD GAME OF GOLF A game suited to 12+ age group.
Time to complete the game, approximately 3/4 of an hour.
The game comprises of a Board with a visually displayed Nine Hole Course, Fig.
3, with Greens, Tee-Off Points, Fairways and Hazards.
In attempting to imitate the real game of golf, we would need most of the clubs that a golfer would carry, therefore, at least Nine Irons, Four Woods, One Sand iron, One Wedge and One Putter. Specifically for the benefit of this game, we have introduced Two Chipping Irons and another Sand Iron, making a club total of Nineteen Clubs.
To replicate these Clubs, we will use Nineteen Six-Sided Dice, as follows: Nine Dice/Clubs, with each of the six sides showing a yardage figure relative to the range ability of those Irons. The Woods, Sand Irons and Wedge Dice/Clubs have also the yardage according to the range limits of their design. Each Dice/ Club, Fig. 2 - no. 13, has a reasonable maximum range in yardage on one side, which then decreases to an acceptable minimum range on the other five sides.
The inclusion of the Two Chipping Irons is to facilitate any short distance not catered for approaching and around the greens; one is the Long Chipper, the other a Short Chipper, again with the relevant yardage displayed.
The Putter/Dice is a Six-Sided Dice, that shows only three numbers on its six sides, and is biased to show 3xNo2; 2xNol; and lxNo3. This Dice is only used for Putting-Out, or Holing, and the number showing face up will be deemed the number of strokes taken to Hole-Out.
Having selected a suitable Dice/Club, we then have to contemplate direction.
This entails the introduction of Seven Dice, comprising of Six Six-Sided Dice, and One Twelve-Sided Dice. These Dice will be known as Lane Indicator Dice, and their function is explained in the following paragraphs.
The Twelve-Sided Dice is displayed with the letters, A.B.C.D.E.H. However, the Dice/Lane Indicator is biased towards the middle letters, and not evenly displayed. This is to gain a reasonable direction of Marker/Ball, without the guarantee of such.
The Six Six-Sided Dice are each displayed with the letters, A.B.C.D.E.H.
These are also biased and the prime letter on each Dice/Lane Indicator is displayed on a Black Face on the White Dice, Fig. 2 - No. 14.
The Twelve-Sided Lane Indicator is used only when Teeing, or Driving Off, at each of the Nine Tee Off Points, and not for any other shots. It is obligatory for the player to adhere to this rule.
The Six Six-Sided Dice/Lane Indicators are used with the second, and any other shot required to get the Marker/Ball onto the Green. The function of these Six Lane Indicators is to give the player a chance to correct the direction of any misdirected shots, by choosing the Lane Direction he would wish to be, without the guarantee of so doing.
The game proceeds by placing a Marker/Ball on the First Fairway Tee, then observing the yardage distance from Tee to Flag Pin, plus the positions of any Hazards. The player selects a suitable Dice/Club, and the Twelve-Sided Lane Indicator, and Drives Off. It is imperative to the Board Game that the selected Dice/Club and the appropriate Lane Indicator are thrown simutaneously when making any Drive or Shot. The exception being the Putter already mentioned.
The result indicated of the distance/yardage attained, plus the direction showing on the uppermost faces/sides of the two thrown Dice, will give the position to place the Marker/Ball on the Grid.
The Grid System, Fig. 1 - No. 11, is formed by drawing seven lines radiating from Tee Points to the Back of the Green. These lines are then intersected by equally spaced lateral lines, to form Six Lanes, Fig. 1 - No. 12, of squares, or segments, representing ten yard spacing, Fig. 1 - No. 11. The Six Lanes are identified by the letters, A.B.C.D.E.H., Fig. 1 - No. 10, which are interchangeable over the Nine Fairways of the Course. Therefore, a separate Grid is required for each of the Nine Fairways and Holes.
Should your Tee Off Shot or Drive fail to reach the Green, or Flag Pin, then a second Shot is required, again the player will observe the remaining yardage distance to the Flag Pin, and choose suitable Dice/Club and Lane Indicator. However, the player will now have a choice of any one of the Six Lettered Lane Indicators for his second and subsequent Shots to the Green.
Remember the Dice/Club and Lane Indicator must always be thrown simultaneously.
Should a Shot overshoot or go past the Flag Pin, then the same procedure of selecting Dice/Club and Lane Indicator, and playing in reverse direction towards the Pin, will apply. This also applies to a Shot that is Pin-High, or level with Pin Square or Segment.
The game requires Rules, regarding Hazards and relevant Penalties, which are described here: Water When landing in the Water, the Penalty from a Drive is to replace Marker on the Tee. Penalty of one Shot. Any other Shot into the Water shall be deemed "Lost" or "Unplayable", and the Marker is to be placed at the nearest point on the Course, without gaining advantage. Also costing one Shot.
Trees As Water, unless Player wishes to Drop the Ball without advantage, into the nearest Square. Also costing one Shot. Definitely unplayable if the Marker lands in a Square full of Trees.
Sand When Shot lands in the Sand the Player shall choose suitable Sand Iron or Wedge. No Penalty is incurred other than the disadvantage of playing with the Handicaps that are built into the Sand Irons or Wedge. All Sand Shots MUST be played with Sand Irons or Wedge. Squares, where partially covered in Sand or Water, the Shot shall be deemed as landing in the larger area. If the Hazard appears to be half the Square, then the Shot shall be deemed to the Players disadvantage, and will incur the normal Hazard Penalty.
Greens A Shot would only be considered on the Green if the Marker lands in a completely Green Square. One can then use Putter to Putt Out. In case of marginal Squares, the same rule applies as for Sand.
