Abstract

A video tape cassette in which no screws are used has, at each corner of the lower half member of the cassette, an upstanding pole 4, the pole being integrally formed with the lower half member 1, and being provided with a shoulder 2 and an upstanding protrusion 3. The corresponding positions of the upper half member 5 are provided with pole-receiving portions 9, each being integrally formed with the upper half member, and being provided with a pole-receiving hole 6, a deformation hole 7 and a through hole 8. When assembling the cassette, the upstanding protrusion is inserted through the through hole into the deformation hole, is deformed into a round head 3' by means of an acoustic horn, whereby making the cassette undisassemblable. The device of the present invention thus constituted brings light weight and low manufacturing cost, as well as preventing possible damage to the tape which can occur when the cassette is disassembled. <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE: CASSETTE FOR VIDEO TAPE The present invention relates to a cassette for video tape he assembly of which can be completed without using any screws.
A video tape cassette is similar to an audio tape cassette in that the tape is moved by means of two reels which are contained within the cassette, but in actuality, a video tape cassette is widely different from an audio tape cassette in that, in a video tape cassette, the reel driving conditions are more fastidious, the tape is exposed outwardly, and other complicated means such as a protecting cap and a reel stopper are provided.
The conventional video tape cassette is provided with fastening places at the four corners in order to couple the upper and lower half members. Corner bosses are formed on the lower half member integrally, while the upper half member is provided with boss-receiving holes and screw-receiving holes integrally respectively at the four corners. When assembling the upper half member and the lower half member, the four bosses of the lower half member and the four boss-receiving holes of the upper half member are matched respectively, and then, the four places are fastened with screws respectively.
The conventional video tape cassette thus constituted has the disadvantages that the screws used added so much to the mass of the cassette, and that the use of the screws contributed substantially to the manufacturing cost of the cassette. Further, when any one of the screws is disengaged, the tape can be entangled with other inner components of the cassette.
The device of the present invention eliminates the use of screws in order to prevent the above-described potential problems, in order to reduce the manufacturing cost, and in order to lessen the weight of the cassette.
Therefore it is the object of the present invention to provide a cassette for video tape in which no metal screws are used. In order to attain this object, the end portion of the pole at each corner is reshaped, such that the assembly could be carried out without using any screw.
A known cassette is shown in Figure 4 in which the corner bosses B are integral with the lower half member HD and boss-receiving holes BB and screw-receiving holes SB are provided in the upper half member UP.
The above object and other advantages of the present invention will be more easily understood by describing the preferred embodiment of the present invention in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: FIGURE 1 is perspective view of a video tape cassette; FIGURE 2 is an illustration of the relevant portion of the device according to the present invention before assembly; FIGURE 3 is a cross sectional view of the relevant portion of the present invention assembled; and FIGURE 4 is an exploded view of the relevant portion of the conventional cassette.
At each corner on the bottom of the lower half member 1 of the video tape cassette, there is formed an upstanding pole 4 integrally with the bottom of the lower half member. On the tip portion of the upstanding pole 4, there are formed a shoulder 2 and an upstanding protrusion 3 integrally therewith, and the upstanding pole 4 is made of a thermoplastic resin.
At each corner on the ceiling of the upper half member 5, there is formed a pole-receiving portion 9 integrally with the ceiling of the upper half member 5.
The pole-receiving portion 9 is provided with a polereceiving hole 6, a deformation hole 7 and a through hole 8 with a smaller diameter. After matching the upper half member 5 with the lower half member 1, the portion of the upstanding protrusion 3 which is extended into the deformation hole 7 is deformed into a round head 3' by means of an acoustic horn.
The upstanding pole 4 made of a thermoplastic resin is formed integrally with the lower half member 1, while the pole-receiving portion 9 is formed integrally with the lower half member 5. This means that the portions 4 and 9 are formed at the same time as the upper and lower half member 5 and 1. When the cassette is to be assembled, the upstanding protrusion 3 formed at the tip of the upstanding pole 4 is guided through hole 8 into the deformation hole 7, whereby matching the upper half member 5 with the lower half member 1.
Then an acoustic horn is inserted into the deformation hole 7, applying a pressure at the same time in order to deform the tip portion of the upstanding protrusion 3 into a round head 3'. After the assembly is thus performed, the shoulder 2 of the upstanding pole 4 is tightly contacted with the ceiling portion of the polereceiving hole 6 providing a security, while the upstanding protrusion 3 not only fills the through hole 8, but also is deformed into a round head 3' within the deformation hole 7. Therefore, once the cassette is assembled, the upper and lower halves can no longer be disassembled. As the device according to the present invention does not use any metal screws in assembling the cassette, the weight of the cassette is reduced, and at the same time, the manufacturing cost of the cassette is also reduced.
The device of the present invention thus constituted will prevent possible damage to the tape which can occur when the cassette is inadvertently or intentionally disassembled. In addition, the device according to the present invention has the advantages of light weight and low manufacturing cost.
