Abstract

220,896. Denis, A. March 19, 1924. Planting-tools, hand; plants, watering.-A tool for making holes in the ground and delivering water and plants therein comprises a conical casing, a plant tube within the casing, a water outlet controlled by a valve, a pivoted shovel cooperating with a fixed shovel at the lower end of the casing, and means for operating the valve and movable shovel disposed below and above the handle of the apparatus so that they may be actuated by a finger and thumb of a hand gripping the handle. The plant tube 2 is riveted inside the casing or water reservoir 1, the space between its lower end and the casing being closed by a partition 4 fitted with a valve 5 that opens inwards and is controlled by means of a rod 6, a spring 7, and the weight of the water. The upper end of the rod 6 is bent at right angles and provided with a hook below the carrying handle 8. The pivoted shovel is normally pressed against the fixed' shovel 10 by a spring. It is operated by pressing on a head 17 and thus moving a lever fulcrummed on the end support of the handle and connected to the shovel by a rod outside the casing. A hook is provided by means of which the casing may be rotated.
