Abstract
220,880. Waldvogel, H. Jan. 4, 1924. Endless - chain machines. - In an excavator of the type comprising shovels pivoted to motordriven circulating means s (endless chains) and adapted' for pivotal movement under the control of guides engaged by followers or rollers serving as supports for the shovels, the rear followers are pivotally connected to the circulating means and engage lower and intermediate guides and the front followers engage upper and lower guides while the upper guides have curved parts at one end and the lower guides have curved parts at the opposite end. The machine carries a structure <2> in which are journaled on each side sprockets 3, 4 connected by chains 5. The wheels 4 are driven through a worm 10 and shaft 9 from a motor 8 which also drives the ground wheels 12 and conveyer 16. Pivoted to the chains 5 are shovels 17 secured to rods 18 which are pivoted to the chains 5 and carry rollers 19 running on guide rails 20, 21. A second rod 18<1> carries rollers 25 running on guide rails 21, 26. When passing from the rails 21 to those 26, the rollers 25 run on curved parts 27 of the rails 21 and are led to hinged plates 30 controlled by springs 28. These plates 30 are pushed back by the rollers 25, but as the rollers leave them, their springs 28 restore them and the rollers run over their upper parts on to the rails 26. The rear parts 32 of the rails 26 are curved downwardly to tilt the shovels 17 and discharge their contents onto the conveyer 16, a spring plate 33 aiding to prevent overbalancing. On leaving the parts 32 of the rails 26, the rollers 25 engage guide rails 34 so that the shovels are restored to scooping position. A pivoted tongue 35 on each rail 34 allows the rollers 19 to pass.
