Description

A S11JRIflt DISPLAY RACK This invention relates to a security display rack intended for use for the display of a variety of articles of clothing.
The object of the invention is to provide a display rack so that articles of clothing can be displayed in an easily accessible manner whilst preventing the articles of clothing fran being removed fran the rack.
A security display rack according to the present invention can be free standing or be secured to a wall or any structure having suitable generally vertical faces to which the display rack can be attached.
Accordingly the present invention provides a security display rack for articles of clothing, the rack comprising a first frame and a second frame arranged to be secured to the first frame, the second frame extending through one or more openings of an article of clothing, the ends of the second frame being releasably secured to the first frame.
The first frame can be arranged to be floor standing or it can be adapted to be secured to a generally vertically extending face.
The first frame can include at least one continuous fixed portion and a movable portion, the ends of the second frame being engagable with the first frame and at least one end of the second frame being engagable by the movable portion of the first frame.
One end of the continuous fixed portion of the first frame can be securable to a generally vertically extending surface.
In an alternative arrangement, the first frame can comprise two arms both of which are securable at one end to a generally vertically extending surface, at least one of the arms having a moveable portion, the ends of the second frame being engagable with the two arms, and at least one end of the second frame being engagable by the moveable portion of one of said arms.
The movable portion can be movable between a first position in which the said one end of the second frame is secured to the continuous portion and a second position in which the second frame can be removed fran the first frame, securing means being provided to secure the movable portion in the first position.
For example, in the case of items of knitwear sudh as jumpers the continuous portion of the first frame can be rectangular in form and the second frame can be an arm having an end which engages in a slot in one of the sides of the rectangular continuous portion and the other end of the arm can have a recess which engages with the opposite side of the continuous rectangular frame. The arm can have a further recess whidh is engaged by the movable portion of the first frame.
In the case of articles of clothing sudh as coats, jackets, dresses, shirts and blouses, the first frame can also include a further continuous portion set at right angles to the first continuous portion and the second frame can comprise a jointed arm to enable the arm to be inserted through the articles of clothing.
The jointed arm can have an end with two recesses similar to that described above so that one of the recesses engages a length of one of the continuous portions, the other recess being engagable by the movable portion of the first frame and the remainder of the arm has two projections engaging in slots in the first and further continuous portions of the first frame.
In the case of articles of clothing sudh as trousers and skirts, the first frame can once again also include a further continuous portion and the second frame is in the form of a T, the ends of one of the arms of which is formed with two recesses as described in relation to the arms above. The ends of the other two arms of the T engage in slots in the first and further continuous frames.
In this case the arm can also be provided with clips so that the article of clothing can be secured to the arm.
The present invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the accomFanying drawings in which Fig. 1 snows in diagrammatic perspective form the first frame of one form of security display rack according to tile present invention, Fig. 2 shows the second frame for the display rack shown in Fig.

Referring to Figs. 1 to 4, a security display rack 10 intended for the display of articles of knitwear such as jumpers comprises a continuous frame 12 supported on legs 14 having bases 16, the legs being secured together by a tie bar 18. The frame 12 also has a clamping bar 20 hinged at end 20A and having a lock (not shown) at end 20B so that the arm 20 can be secured to the frame 12.
In Fig. 2 there is shown a second frame comprising an arm 22 having a plain end 22A which is arranged to engage in a slot in one of the lengths of the lengths of the frame 12, in this case the length opposite the length upon which the arm 20 is hinged.
The arm 22 also has an end 22B having a recess 22C arranged to engage the length 12B of the frame 12 and a recess 22D Which is engagable by the clamping arm 20. In use the arm 22 is passed through the arms of a jumper or similar article and the end 22A engages in the slot in the length 12A of the frame 12. The other end of the arm 22B engages the length 12B by engagement with tile slot 22C in the end 22B, and the cLamping arm is moved down so that it engages in the slot 22D. The lock at the end 22B of the arm 20 is then operated to secure the free end of the arm 20B to the frame 12.In this position the arm 22 together with the garment can be moved along the frame, but it is very difficult for the garment to be removed from the display rack without either the lock being broken or one or more parts of the frame being broken.
Referring to Figs. 5 to 9 which shows a security display rack 30 intended for the display of coats, jackets, dresses, shirts, blouses and similar articles of clothing. The display rack 30 includes a first continuous frame 32 and a second continuous frame 34. Lengths 32A and 34A of the respective frames are provided with slots and length 32B has a clamping arm 36 pivoted at end 36A to the length 32B and having a lock (not shown) at end 36B.
Referring to Fig. 6 there is shown a second frame for use in conjunction with the display rack shown in Fig. 5 comprising a jointed arm 38 ccmprising a length 38k having free ends 38B and 38C which engage respectively in slots in the lengths 34k and 32A as shown in Figs. 7 and 8 respectively. The arm 38A also has a length 38D terminating in an end 38E which has recesses 38F and 38G.
In use the arm 38 is threaded through a garment such as a jacket and the ends 38B and 38C of the arm 38 are engaged in the slots in the lengths 32A and 34A of the frames 32 and 34 respectively as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The end 38G is engaged with the length 32B of the frame 32 as shown in Fig. 9 and the clamping arm 36 engages in the slot 38G and the lock at the end 36B of the clamping arm is secured to the frame 32. The arm can be moved along the display rack so that the garment can be viewed by a potential purchaser, but as in the case of the security rack shown in Figs. 1 to 4, the garment is extremely difficult to remove fran the display rack.
Referring now to Figs. 10 to 13 inclusive, there is shown a display rack 40 intended for use particularly with trousers and skirts. The display rack 40 is similar to the display rack 10 shown in Fig. 1 except that the tie bar 18 is provided with a slot as will be described later. The display stand 40 oomprises a continuous frame 42 having lengths 42A and 42B. The length 42A is also provided with a slot and a clamping arm 44 is hinged at end 44A to length 42B and has a lock (not shown) at end 44B to enable the clamping arm to be secured to the frame 42.
A second frame comprising a T shaped arm 46 is shown in Fig. 11.
The arm 46 has two ends 46A and 46B which engage in slots in the length 42A of the continuous frame 40 and in the tie bar 18 respectively. The arm 46 also has an end 46C similar to the ends 38E and 22B of the arms 38 and 22 shown in Figs. 6 and 2. The end 46C has recesses 46D and 46E to engage respectively with the length 42B of the frame 42 and the clamping arm 44. The arm 46 also has two clips 48 tD enable the garment to be attached to the arm.
In use an articles of clothing such as a pair of trousers or a skirt is attached to the arm 46 by means of the clips 48 and the arm terminating at 46B is passed down one of the legs of a pair of trousers, or through the skirt. The ends 46A and 46B are located in the slots in the lengths 42A and the tie bar 18, and the recess 46D of the end 46E engages the length 42B of the frame 42. The clamping bar 44 then engages the recess 46C and the lock is operated to secure the clamping bar to the frame 42. Once again the article of clothing can be moved on its arm along the frame so that the garments can be easily seen, but the garment is very difficult to remove from the display rack.
Referring to Figs. 15, 16 and 17 there is shown part of the upright of the T shaped arm 46 located in the tie bar 18 in the form of a channel. The lower part of the upright arm includes a foot 50 which sits in the bottom of the tie bar 18.
The provision of the foot 50 makes it very difficult for the upright part of the T shaped frame 46 to be moved out of engagement with the tie bar 18 which would otherwise enable a garment secured to the T shaped frame to be removed frcrn the frame 46.
A foot similar to the foot 50 could also be provided on the end 22A of the frame 22 either of the ends 38B ammd 38C of the frame 38, and the end 46A of the frame 46.
Referring to Fig. 18 which shows a modified form of part of the second frame 22 in Fig. 1, 38 in Fig. 5 and 46 in Fig. 10, the respective clamping bars 20, 36 and 44 of the first frames 12, 32 and 40 can be dispensed with and each second frame 22, 38 and 46 can be modified as shown in Fig. 18. One end of each second frame can be provided with a slot 52 which engages with, for example, portion 12B, 32B or 42B of the first frame and is also provided with a pivoted clamping arm 54 which can be secured in position by a lock 56 illustrated diagrammatically only.
Referring to Figs. 19-22 a security display rack 110 intended for the display of articles of knitwear, such as jumpers, comprises a continuous frame 112, secured by means not shown to a generally vertically extending wall 114 having an adjacent floor 116. The frame 112 can be attached to the wall 114 by means of rails 118 having slots (not shown) engagable by projections (not shown) on the frame 112.
The frame 112 has a clamping bar 120 hinged at end 120A and having a lock (not shown) at end 120B, so that the arm can be secured to frame 112.
In Fig.20 there is shown a second frame comprising an arm 122 having a plain end 122A which is arranged to be engaged in a slot in one of the lengths of the frame 112, in this case the length opposite the length upon which the arm 120 is hinged. The arm 122 also has an end 122B having a recess 122C arranged to engage the length 112B of the frame 112, and a recess 122D which is engageable by clasping on 120.
In use the arm 122 is passed through the arm of a jumper or similar article and the end 122A enagages in the slot in the length 112A of the frame 112. The other end of the arm 122B engages the length 112B by engagement of the slot 122C in the end 122B, and the clamping arm is moved down so that it engages in the slot 122D. The lock at the end of 122B of the arm 120 is then operated to secure the free end of the arm 120B to the frame 112.
In this position the arm 122, together with a garment can be moved along the frame, but it is very difficult for the garment to be removed from the display rack without either the lock being broken or one or more parts of the frame being broken.
In the arrangement shown in Figs.19-22 22 the frame 112 extends fran the wall, more or less parallel with the floor 116. Hcwever, it may be more convenient and desirable for the frame 112 to be inclined and such an arrangement is shown in Figs. 23, 24 and 25.
In this arrangement the frame 112 comprises two arms 124A and 124B which are analogous to the arms 112A and 112B, the arm 124B having a movable arm 126 analogous to the arm 120. The arms 124A and 124B are attached to the wall 114 by means of rails 118, the rails having slots engaged by projections on each of the arms.
The second frame of the display rack shown in Figs. 23-25 is very similar to the second frame 122 shown in the previous Figs, and for the sake of convenience the same reference numerals have been used.
Also, the sections of the arms 124A and 124B are very similar to the sections of the arms 112A and 112B. In order to prevent the second frame 122 from sliding relative to the arm 124A, the arm 124A is provided with pegs 128 and similary the arm 124B can be provided with notches (not shown) to prevent any such relative movement.
A security display rack according to the present invention can be attached to a wall, either extending horizontally or inclined downward as described above, or alternatively it can be attached to any other generally verticallly extending surface, apart fran, a fixed structure such as a wall. For example, an existing display rack ar any other similar type of movable furniture.
The scope of the invention is not restricted to the forms of the first and second frames described above, and the cross sectional shapes of the first and second frames can be varied, and other forms of preventing relative movement between the first and second frames can be provided without departing fron the scope of the invention.
