Abstract
The invention comprises a fish hook and hook cover which covers the hook end until a fish takes the bait. The hook cover is fastened to the hook near the hook eye (6) and arranged in such a way that the hook cover can swing mainly around an axis that is rectangular onto the plane of the hook, the plane including the whole hook (3), eye (6) and hook end (14), and the hook cover consisting of two outstanding flaps (7) on each side of the hook, which in the rest position lie parallel with the plane of the hook. <IMAGE>
Description
FISH HOOK AND HOOK COVER 2f"% r.
0 / 8 4 4 The invention relates to a fish hook and hook cover which covers the hook end until the fish takes the bait, and prevents the hook from getting stuck in other parts of the line as well as attracting the fish to the bait.
Such a hook cover is of a great advantage when fishing with a long line, where so many as 1000 hooks are used per line; smaller vessels have up to 6 8 lines, while 16 - 18 lines may be used by larger vessels. This is specially the case when the line is coiled up onto a winch that facilitates the laying of the line.
The hook cover has the function to cover the hook until the fish takes the bait, and prevents the hook getting stuck in other parts of the line or the line equipment, to attract the fish to the bait and even store bait for attracting the fish to the hook.
In accordance with the invention the hook cover is fastened to the hook near the hook eye and arranged in such a way that the hook cover can swing mainly around an axis that is rectangular onto the plane of the hook, the plane including the whole hook, eye and hook end, and the hook cover consists of two outstanding flaps on each side of the hook, which in their rest position lie parallel with the plane of the hook. This version of the invention makes it possible to attach the hook cover to the hook in a simple manner, at the same time as the hook is attached to the snood.
The hook cover can either be made by cast moulding (Figs. 1 to 3) or cut out of a plate material (Fig. 4) of rubber or plastic.
1 The invention will be described in further detail by way of example with reference to the drawings which show two possible versions of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows a hook cover made by cast moulding; Fig. 2 shows the hook with a pocket for receiving fishing bait; Fig. 3 shows Fig. 2 from the side; and Fig. 4 shows a hook cover made of plate material without a backplate.
In Figs 1 to 3 the hook cover 11 is showed made of soft elastic material such as rubber or plastic. It can for instance be made by cast moulding. The hook cover 1, is fastened to the hook eye 6, with a rivet or like 4, together with the snood 5. The hook cover consists mainly of two plates 7, that are connected together with a backplate 9, making in cross section a U- or V-shaped object. The backplate 9, is arranged with a opening 8, which the hook end can pass through. The backplate does not run to the end of the sideplates 12, so that an opening 13 is made there in between. In between the side plates and the backplate there is arranged a transverse plate 2 thereby making a pocket for fishing bait.
Fig. 4 shows one version of the hook cover 11 made of a plate or sheet material or the like, for example plastic or rubber. The hook cover consists of two sideplates 7, fastened to the eye of the hook, and lies almost parallel with the leg 3 of the hook, making in cross section a Vshaped object. The plates are connected together on the side that-turns against the leg of the hook.
1 The invention described here is not restricted to the above embodiments but may be modified in many ways without departing in fundamental respect from the idea which has been described here and which is illustrated in the accompanying figures.

Claims (6)
1. A fish hook and hook cover which covers the hook end until a fish takes the bait, wherein the hook cover is fastened to the hook near the hook eye and arranged in such a way that the hook cover can swing mainly around an axis that is rectangular onto the plane of the hook, the plane including the whole hook, eye and hook end, and the hook cover consisting of two outstanding flaps on each side of the hook, which in the rest position lie parallel with the plane of the hook.
2. A fish hook and hook cover according to Claim 1, wherein two outstanding flaps are connected to each other with one or more backplates, turning against the leg of the hook.
3. A fish hook and hook cover according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein at least one opening is arranged on the hook cover for passing the hook end through.
4. A fish hook and hook cover according to Claim 1 2, or 3, wherein between the flaps there is arranged at least one traverse plate that which together with the flaps and the backplate forms a pocket for bait or the like.
5. A fish hook and hook cover according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the hook cover is made of material that can absorb fishing bait.
6. A fish hook and hook cover substantially as herein before described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
